General Meeting - Minutes

January 22, 2025 / 7:00 PM / Radburn Elementary Multipurpose Room
Call to Order
- The meeting was called to order by President Joy Bradway at 7:12pm.
- The pledge of allegiance was led by President Joy Bradway.
APPROVALS
- The draft minutes from the November 20, 2024 general meeting were distributed and motioned to be approved by Clifford Ogbuagu and seconded by Joy Ann Yucht and approved.
REPORTS
President’s Report
Given by Joy Bradway
- FLEA gave a $500 grant to be spent on Art Night on May 8, 2025.
- According to the Council Meeting, the Board of Education rebranding for the Fair Lawn School system is being pushed to June.
- All committees must follow strict guidelines that all vendors need to carry their own insurance.
Treasurer’s Report
Given by Natalie Lembesis
- The Financial Report was shared in an excel spreadsheet. No amendments or changes to the designated fund in the budget.
- Employer Matching was discussed in terms of the Read-A-Thon and other fundraising events.
- The budget was motioned to be approved by Adrianna Smithline and seconded by Stephanie Moreno. The budget was approved.
Principal’s Report
Given by Jackie Lynn in Mrs. Lindsay’s absence
- Thanked Oksana Lytvyn for the Holidays Around the World event.
- Thanked Dave Mosher and Natalie Lembesis for outdoing themselves with the Read-A-Thon this year.
- Lunar New Year presentation will be end of January.
- February 26, and 27, 2025 will be half days to accommodate Parent Teacher Conferences.
- One Book One School will be kicked off the week of Read Across America with a roll our of this year’s title and a culminating event. There will not be a Family Movie Night this year.
- March will also bring Culture Day.
Teacher’s Report

- A summary of what each grade is currently working on in the classroom was given.
- A summary was also given of French, Art, and Care Plus activities.
Officers’ Reports
- 1st Vice President: Dana Gabay
- The Art to Remember fundraiser had a total sales of $6373.87 and the PTA made $1912.16.
- The School Supplies Kit company will send the lists that will be approved by the teachers. Sales should start around spring break and end around July 1st.
- On May 6, 2025, an author, Rebecca Gardyn Levington is coming in celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month.
- VP, Fundraising: Given by Adrianna Smithline in Aura Showfety Absence
- Valentine’s Day Pizza fundraiser will end on February 5, 2025.
- The spring event, “Rad Gala”, will be held on April 24, 2025. Tickets will begin to be available on February 3, 2025. The best way to help is to attend or donate to the event.
- VP, Cultural Enrichment: Given by Oksana Lytvyn
- There were three past successful events: Hispanic Heritage, Diwali, Holidays of all cultures (Armenia, Israel, China).
- The last author vistine this year will be for Jewish American Heritage month on Mary 6, 2025.
- A Lunar New Year celebration will be on January 31, 2025. It will include: Dragon Dancers, teachers received sample packets of an optional dragon craft to make with their class or a parent volunteer will help.
- An African American History performance will be held on February 25, 2025. A professional Jazz Band from American Music Academy will perform.
- Holi, AAPI are being discussed about how best to celebrate this year.

- Nominating Committee: Given by Stephanie Moreno
- The Nominating Committee (Rowena Mendoza and Kristine Vo) nominated Stephanie Moreno for ChairPerson. Anna Meister motioned and Illana Shapiro seconded to approve.
- The four positions that will be open for 2025-2026 are President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Recording Secretary.
Committee Reports
- This fundraiser was very successful.
- Ms. Browne from the Board of Education and Dr. Dionisio, Superintendent, visited Radburn to read to classes.
- Spirit Day for Read-a-thon will be January 24, 2025.
- Need volunteers to help with Google Workspace and web hosting.
- Migrating private committee accounts into Google Workspace.
- Book Fair: Meghan Petzold
- A buy one get one Spring Scholastic Book Fair will be held April 2-4, 2025.
- Gifts to School: Joy Bradway
- Kindergarten train is still being checked to see if it is out of stock.
- Family Night/Art Show: Meghan Petzold
- This event will take place on May 8, 2025 and a save the date flyer will be sent next week.
- Every child will have artwork displayed at this family event.
- Teacher Appreciation: Meghan Petzold
- An Amazon wishlist will be shared soon for Stock the Shelves during Parent Teacher Conferences week (end of February).
- Teacher Appreciation Week is the first week in May.
- Half Day Lunch: Meghan Petzold
- If any committees need to use something from pizza day supplies, please let Becky Cortese know what you used so it can be replaced for next pizza day.
- June pizza and bagel dates will be announced soon. Waiting for 4th Grade breakfast to pick dates.
- 4th Grade Committee: Natalie Lembesis
- A Parents’ Night Out fundraiser will be held at Bury the Hatchet.
- Culture Day theme has been decided and sign ups for volunteers will be sent next week.
- March is Poetry month with a training on February 26, 2025.
- Check dates because some collections are leaving Radburn Elementary School.
- TIC TOC will be unveiling a new rebrand soon.
- BOE Liaison: [Open Chair] - report given by Natalie Lembesis
- Radburn Elementary School is the largest elementary school in the district and passed the most recent inspection.
- Two Board of Education members retired (Eugene Banta and Mark Spindella) and one member resigned (Michael Rosenberg).
- Mr. Egan, Radburn Elementary School’s PE teacher, is retiring.
The Meeting adjourned at 8:31pm with a motion by Illana Shapiro and a second from Rowena Mendoza. The next general meeting will be held on March 19, 2025.
