General Duties of Assigned Portfolio

 

Goal of Portfolio

Introducing the sport of rowing to new participants / athletes is a key activity at the club and is vital to our membership levels, to generate revenue to meet our obligations outlined in the Business Plan 2019-2024 and ultimately our success as a Club. This portfolio is responsible for ensuring proper delivery of our introduction to rowing programs, including: Try-It Days, Learn-to-Row (LTR) both for adults and Camp Argo for youth.

 

Duties and Areas of Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities of the Introductory Support Portfolio Director include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Work with the Introductory Programs (IP) Manager in the development and maintenance of a structure for the delivery of each program, including: explanatory handouts, instructors’ guides, class schedules, etc
  2. Supervise the IP Manager in recruitment and supervision of  instructors to lead LTR programs
  3. Work with the IP Manager and other Board members to develop a schedule for LTR and Camp Argo sessions, online management of incoming session applications and payments which take place through the online payment system. Working collaboratively with the General Manager and staff coaches, contribute to the development of the annual program calendar that includes dates for Learn to Row, LTR Regattas and Camp Argo.
  4. Set program session dates for each program (LTR and Camp Argo) by the end of December
  5. Ensure that all program delivery is aligned with Rowing Canada’s Athlete Development Pathway to ensure consistent delivery and ease of transition to other programs within the Club
  6. Ensure that all LTR Instructors are trained through the RCA LTR Instructor course, and that they meet RCA’s Every Coach Certified requirements.
  7. Encourage promotion of membership to LTR graduates by LTR instructors and assist the membership director in transitioning participants to full membership. This is done through staging LTR regattas at the end of several LTR sessions, assisting the IP Manager to recruit volunteers to manage the regatta delivery including programming and refreshments, or some other method.
  8. Recruit assistance of Communications Director in promoting LTR and Camp Argo programs
  9. (With the General Manager) hire and train the Camp Argo Senior Counsellor and other counsellors as needed. Provide guidance to the General Manager in their supervision of the Camp Argo staff. Ensure that Camp Argo staff are trained through RCA’s LTR Instructor course.
  10. With assistance of the General Manager, design Camp Argo program and ensure that all program delivery aligns with Rowing Canada’s Athlete Development Pathway to ensure consistent delivery and ease of transition to other junior programs within the Club
  11. Provide guidance to the IP Manager to keep the General Manager apprised of the status (maintenance) of the LTR equipment (LTR boats, blades, cox-boxes, etc) and Camp Argo equipment (including ladders for coach boats)
  12. Ensure that the Board President is kept informed of all major activities of the portfolio and any scheduled sub-committee meetings, to support the President’s responsibility to monitor overall Board governance.

Evaluation

Director’s performance is evaluated annually through reporting to the membership at the Annual Meeting.

 

Review and Approval Date

The Board reviews the Board Member Job Descriptions annually to ensure appropriate assignment of duties and responsibilities.
