Week at a Glance for the Week of: September 8-10

Grade level: Fifth Grade

Instructional Guidance: The activities below may be done at any point in the week. State standards require at least 135 minutes per week of physical activity. It is recommended that the P.E. material below be used three times per week to guide physical activity. The art and music activities are intended for once per week instruction. Additional time may be spent on any of these activities, but should not limit the time spent on other grade level content.

Essential Learning for this week:

Art

  • Explore why artists keep portfolios
  • Start creating an art portfolio to start documenting your artwork.

Music

  • Practice physical & vocal warm-ups
  • Explore more body percussion
  • Practice reading known rhythmic
  • Practice reading known melodic patterns

Physical Education

  • Practice the Why, When and How of hand washing
  • Practice specialized movements
  • Introduction to specialized rhythmic patterns combined with movement

Learning Targets & Activities

Art

Learn: a) Discover what a portfolio is  b) practice google slides. c) Create your own digital portfolio

Do: a) Look & Think:.Watch the video about portfolios.    b) Plan & Create:  Follow the steps in the slide show to start creating your own google slides portfolio. c) Reflect & Share: When you finish the art, share your portfolio with a family member.  Tell them what you plan to do with your portfolio throughout the year.

Music

Learn: a) Warm up your voice & body, b) explore body percussion as an accompaniment to music and movements that move you through space and d) review known rhythmic and melodic patterns

Do: a) Warm up your body and voice with Choonbaboon and warm up your body with Kidz Bop! b) use the suggested body percussion with Masmudi Playalong c) practice reading known rhythms with this Rock & Roll Play Along and s) read and sing known pitches in this Pentatonic Solfege Jam

Physical Education

Learn: a) the Why, When, and How of hand washing b) specialized movements c) specialized rhythmic patterns combined with movement

Do: a) watch this Video about the Why, When and How for hand washing b) complete the Warm-up video and practice specialized movements c) complete the introduction Video to specialized rhythmic patterns combined with movement.  Pencils, wooden spoons or clapping can be used in place of the Rhythm Sticks.
