K280 PAC E-Board Meeting Minutes

January 24, 2025

Called to order at: approx 8:45 am

In attendance: Gary, Barrett, Jessica, Angela, Joanna, Gretchen, Mike, Topher

  1. Reminded parents where to purchase tickets in advance
  2. Event will include snacks, crowns, and wands for sale
  3. “Special appearance” from a character
  1. Valentine’s Dance

  2. Directed parents to online ticket purchasing option
  3. Requested volunteers to donate items to the auction baskets
  1. Book Fair March 3- March 8
  2. Heritage Day March 8, 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. in cafeteria

  2. Fundraiser proceeds help to support events like the upcoming lion dance in celebration of Lunar New Year

  1. Treasurer Finance Update        
  1. About $3,000 in proceeds from donations and fundraisers in December
  2. Gala and book fair events brought in significant proceeds last year
  1. Traffic safety update/discussion with Council Member Shahana Hanif
  1. Ms. Hanif’s assistant was given a tour by Colby B. during morning dropoff
  2. Ms. Hanif meets with the DOT monthly and will continue to advocate for interventions that will improve traffic safety
  3. Ms. Hanif suggested universal daylighting as a potential option
  4. Ms. Hanif was provided with a booklet containing a summary of K280 parent concerns about traffic safety issues
  5. Ms. Hanif encouraged families to attend their community board and precinct council meetings to continue advocating for school traffic safety
  1. Admin Update from Barrett and Gary
  1. Mandated drills (lockdowns and evacuations) are ongoing
  1. Students are not crossing any streets during drills this year which has resulted in increased efficiency
  1. Upcoming Parent Workshops
  1. IEPs
  2. Reading
  3. Math
  1. Mindfulness workshops for students, will take place over a period of five weeks
  2. Gary will continue to pass along DOE-related information and notifications, encouraged parents to email or call with any questions
  1. Gary will share information about remote learning protocols for possible future pivots to remote
  1. Reviewed application deadlines for 3k, Pre-K and kindergarten
  1. 3k app deadline is 2/28
  2. Pre-k app deadline is 2/28
  3. Kindergarten app deadline is 1/24
  1. Barrett and Gary are in the process of finalizing the school turtle mascot
