Cathedral (IN) vs. Edwardsville (IL) - Friday 2:00 PM
Cathedral scored 10 runs in the first three innings, en-route to a 13-3 win over Edwardsville. Cathedral was led on the mound by junior Derek Haslett who went five innings and struck out six in the win. SS Jared Poland, a Louisville commit, filled up the stat sheet for Cathedral. Poland finished 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, four RBI and a walk. Seth Link also had two hits and added two RBI and two runs. Louisville commit, Drake Westcott hit a solo home run in the loss for Edwardsville.

Massillon Jackson (OH)  vs. Joliet Catholic (IL) - Friday 2:30 PM
 Joliet Catholic Academy cruised to a 12-2 victory in five innings behind a balanced offensive attack and a strong pitching performance by 2019 LHP Alex Vera, who went the distance.  Vera yielded three hits with six strikeouts and two walks while throwing a high volume of strikes. Offensively, the Hillmen scored four in the second and added three more in the fourth. Missouri State recruit Greg Ziegler went 3-for-4 with a triple, double, two-run single and scored three runs. He ripped a double down the third-base line to lead off the second inning, also tripled to right-center and blooped a two-run single to left. Uncommitted 6-foot-1, 170-pound left-handed hitter Tony Fleischauer went 3-for-3 with a double, walk, three RBI and a run scored. Went up the middle for two of his hits, also roped a double to right-center in JCA’s big fourth-inning. Aidan Tyrell added three hits, including a double and run-scoring single.

Providence (IN) vs. O’Fallon (IL) - Friday 4:00 PM
Providence stormed back from an early 5-0 deficit with eight unanswered runs to knock off O’Fallon 8-5. Timmy Borden hit a game-tying three-run home run to tie the game at five in Providence’s six-run, sixth inning. Junior leadoff hitter, Kaden Williams, finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored for Providence. Joe Wilkinson and Nathan Proctor added to hits a piece in the win.  Hayden Juenger and Josh Gibson helped jumpstart the O’Fallon offense to the early lead. Gibson, a Missouri State commit, hammered a solo home run to left-field in the first inning. Juenger, who finished the game 2-for-4, added a two-run single in the second inning.

Joliet Catholic (IL) vs. Cathedral (IN) - Friday 5:00 PM

Joliet Catholic got to 2-0 on the day after knocking off perennial power Cathedral from Indiana by the score of 6-4. Joliet Catholic banged out 11 total hits in the game and scored four runs in the third inning and two more in the fifth, accounting for their six runs. Notre Dame commit, Aidan Tyrell went 6.1 innings on the mound, scattered eight hits, gave up three earned runs and struck out five. Cole Vassilo went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Mack Murphy went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI for Cathedral. Tony Fleischauer led the way offensively for Joliet Catholic going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Max Cullen and Simon Grashoff added two hits apiece and Grashoff doubled.

Kokomo (IN) vs. Moeller (OH) - Friday 5:15 PM
Kokomo threw a pair of high-level 90-plus arms at Moeller, but one wouldn’t know that by the final score, as the Crusaders ran away with a 23-8 victory. The harder the fastballs came in, the harder they went out. Moeller pounded out 11 hits in the third inning, effectively knocking out Louisville-bound ace Jack Perkins and 2021 RHP Charez Butcher, both of whom worked in the 89-92 range. Up and down the lineup, the Crusaders mashed, headlined by No. 8 hitter, unsigned senior Jack Warncke, who went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, five RBI and worked a 16-pitch at-bat. Missouri 3B Cameron Swanger went 3-for-4 with five RBI. Taylor Hopkins collected three hits, including a triple a triple and three RBI.

Portage Northern (MI) vs. Sandburg (IL) - Friday 5:45 PM

In a well played defensive game, Sandburg edges out Portage Northern by a final of 2-0.  Sandburg scored two runs in the second on a Nick Skrabis double in the top of the second inning.  Erik Herold was solid on the mound for Sandburg, as he took a no-hitter into the 5th, when Xander Morris had Portage Northern’s only hit with a two out double.  Herold finished the day with a complete game one-hit shutout and punched out two.  Branden Comie, an Illinois commit, finished the day 2-4 while making some nice plays in the field.  

 Tallmadge (OH) vs. Roncalli (IN) - Friday 6:15 PM 

Roncalli saw their bats come alive early scoring six after the first two innings.  They would plate runs in all but two innings of the game, defeating Tallmadge 10-3.  Senior Harrison Koppenhofer led the Rebels offense going 3-5 with 2 RBI. Louisville recruit Nicholas Schnell was 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI.  Freshman Dominic Brown also finished 2-4 with a HR.  Junior southpaw Max Lundy earned the win pitching five innings allowing five hits and two runs while striking out two. Tallmadge’s Jard Burick and Phillip Glasser each had multiple hits.  

Edwardsville (IL) vs. Moeller (OH) - Friday 7:45 PM

In the longest game of the Midwest Select so far, Edwardsville walked off on Moeller 6-5 in the 12th inning. Trailing 5-4 Joe Copeland singled down the left-field line with two outs, scoring the tying and winning run. Edwardsville starting pitcher Reid Hendrickson battled throughout going six innings, scattering five hits and striking out eight in the no decision. Junior right-hander Jonathon Yancik came out of the bullpen and struck out four and did not allow a hit in three innings of work. Josh Ohl went 3-for-5 with an RBI in the win for Edwardsville. The top of the lineup for Moeller, McDonough and Taylor Hopkins paced the offense. Both had two hits and RBI and scored three total runs.

 O’Fallon (IL) vs. Portage Northern (MI) - Friday 8:15 PM 

O’Fallon bounced back in its second game to easily handle Portage Northern, 8-1. The Panthers got production up and down the lineup. Senior OF Nick Boone led the way, going 4-for-4 with a home run, double, 3 RBI, two runs and two stolen bases.  Junior 1B Matthew Albritton laced a pair of singles up the middle, drove in a run, scored once and walked. Nick Boone doubled and singled, while Missouri State junior SS Josh Gibson went 1-for-1 with a pair of walks, a sac fly and swiped a pair of bases. RHP Garrett Herring turned in a solid start for the Panthers, effectively working his 77-79 fastball that flashed late cutting action to record six strikeouts with no walks while yielding six hits in 4.1 innings. RHP Adam Drewry pitched 2.2 innings of hitless ball and struck out six to finish out the victory. Portage Northern was paced by 2019 left-handed hitting OF Tyler Helgeson, who went 2-for-4 with a double and stolen base.

Tallmadge (OH) vs. Providence (IN) - Friday 8:30 PM
In one of the most exciting games of the evening, Providence bested Tallmadge 7-6 on ten hits, scoring the winning run in the top of the 7th.  Kaden WIlliams, Eli Watson and Timmy Borden each had extra base hits for the Pioneers.  Junior Louisville commit Joe Wilkinson started the game for Providence, going 3.2 innings allowing four runs on five hits while striking out four.  Zachary Tackett  earned the win pitching 2.1 innings giving up no runs on four hits with two strikeouts.  Borden finished the game, earning his second save of the evening.  Tallamadge senior Seth Gergely finished with three hits and two RBI.  

Sandburg (IL) vs. Roncalli (IN) - Friday 8:45 PM

Sandburg rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to defeat Roncalli 5-4 in walk-off fashion. 3B Andrew Tenison tied the game with an RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh, driving in SS Branden Comia. With the game tied, one out and a man on third, DH Evan Tenuta hit a fly ball just deep enough to right field for the game-winning run to tag and score. Tenuta finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. For Roncalli RHP, Nick Schnell was a force on the mound and at the plate, running his fastball up to 93.5 and going 2-for-3 with two triples and two run scored.

SATURDAY, April 14


Kokomo (IN) vs. Massillon Jackson (OH) - Saturday 10:00AM

Massillon Jackson coasted to a 12-2 victory over Kokomo (OH) in their final game of the event. Jackson, who pounded out 19 hits in the win, jumped out early with four runs in the first inning.  Trent Jones, Davis Graham, Nick Shatrich and Matt Hicks all had RBI in the first. Jones got the start on the mound and went three innings, scattered three hits, one run, struck out two and did not walk a batter. Every hitter in the Jackson starting lineup collected a hit in the game. Graham and Spencer Stanton led the way offensively for Jackson. Graham went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI. Stanton was also 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored. Jack Perkins had a solo home run in the loss.

O’Fallon (IL) vs. Mason (OH) - Saturday 12:30 PM

O’Fallon tallied 17 hits and 17 runs on their way to a 17-7 win in six innings. Matthew Albritton capped off an impressive game with the game-ending RBI single down the right-field line. Albritton got things going in the first inning for O’Fallon with a no-doubt three-run home runs over the left-field fence. Albritton finished the game 4-for-5 with five RBI and a run scored. Brayden Arnold also had himself a game for O’Fallon. The right-handed hitting designated hitter went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI.  Mason pounded out 11 hits in their own right. Leadoff hitter Joe Powell, a Cincinnati commit, finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Nick Northcut also had a big game going 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. With the win O’Fallon moves to 16-1-1 on the season.

Kokomo (IN) vs. Sandburg (IL)  Saturday - 12:45 PM

Sandburg finished off its impressive showing with a convincing 12-5 victory to go 3-0 over three quality teams. The Eagles’ bats shined against a high-level right-hander Bayden Root (Ohio State), who opened the game sitting 91-92 with a sharp 77-81 mph slider. 2018 C Ryan Hampe served as the offensive catalyst, reaching base in all five plate appearances, going 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles. SS Branden Comia delivered a triple with a pair of walks while playing a stellar defensive shortstop. Tommy Windt, Andrew Tenison, Seth Masters and Evan Tenuta each collected a pair of hits in the victory.  Masters, Windt and Tenison each contributed on the mound to earn the Eagles the victory.


Tallmadge (OH) vs. Edwardsville (IL) - Saturday 1:00 PM

Edwardsville used three big innings to defeat Tallmadge by a score of 12-3. The Tigers built an early five run lead in the second inning thanks to a couple of free passes and a bases clearing three RBI double by 1B Drake Westcott, a Louisville commit. Tallmadge was able to scratch one run across in the bottom half of the second on an opposite field single by sophomore 1B Andrew Ayres. Edwardsville extended their lead to 12-1 as they scored a combined seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The Blue Devils were able to extend the game into the seventh inning with two runs of their own in the sixth, but could do no more offensively. Offensively, Edwardsville was paced by 3B Cole Hampton, 2-for-3, two doubles, three runs scored and 1B Drake Westcott, 1-for-3, double, three RBI, one run scored, one stolen base. Andrew Ayres led Tallmadge, going 2-for-3, with a double and two RBI.

Massillon Jackson (OH) vs. Providence (IN) - Saturday 1:00 PM

Massillon Jackson got their final day of the event off on the right foot, defeating Providence (IN) by the score of 10-0. The Polar Bears of Jackson pounded out 14 hits in the game and were lead by the top two hitters in their lineup, Trey Wright and Ethan Kulich. Wright finished the game 3-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases and three runs scored. Kulich finished 4-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI. Davis Graham reached base in every at-bat going 2-for-2 with a walk, three RBI and a run scored. Yianni Skeriotis started on the mound and went three innings without giving up a hit and struck out seven. The Polar Bears offense put up a crooked number in three of the first four innings en-route to the win.

Mason (OH) vs. Cathedral (IN) - Saturday 3:00 PM

Mason and Cathedral went head to head and a low scoring affair ensued with Mason coming out on top 2-1. Mason scored in the bottom of the first inning to take the early 1-0 lead when Cole Harting grounded out, scoring leadoff hitter Joe Powell. After Cathedral tied it up at one in the top of the fourth, Mason answered back with the go-ahead, winning run in the bottom half of the inning. Max Johnson grounded out, scoring Harrison Johnson. Johnson led the way for the Mason going 2-for-3. Nick Northcut, who is most notably for his prowess with the bat, got the start and win on the mound for Mason. Northcut, who ran his fastball up to 87 mph went five innings, scattered two hits, one run, none earned, struck out six and walked five. Peyton Schofield threw well in a losing effort for Cathedral. Schofield went five innings, scattered two hits, two runs, one earned, struck out four and walked three. Derek Haslett went 2-for-2 and scored a run for Cathedral. Cathedral SS Jared Poland hit a one-out triple with one out in the seventh inning but Mason left him stranded at third base to secure the win.

Portage Northern (MI) vs. Roncalli (IN) - Saturday 3:15 PM

Three Portage Northern pitchers combined to throw a three hit shutout as Portage Northern defeated Roncalli 2-0 in the final game of the PBR Midwest Select. Portage scored the only two runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth. The Huskies loaded the bases after a batter was hit by a pitch and consecutive singles by Tyler Helgeson and Gannon Andrews. Cam French drove in the game-winning run with an infield single and Greg Lapetina followed suit with a fielder’s choice that scored a second run. French led the Huskies offensively, 3-for-3 with an RBI. Standing out for Roncalli was starting pitcher Colten Panaranto who went six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out eight in a losing effort.
