University of Washington (“we” or “us” or “our”) respects the privacy of our users (“user” or “you”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our mobile application (the “Application”). Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THE TERMS OF THIS PRIVACY POLICY, YOU MAY NOT ACCESS THE APPLICATION. YOUR USE OF THE APPLICATION CONSTITUTES ACCEPTANCE OF AND AGREEMENT WITH THIS PRIVACY POLICY

We reserve the right to make changes to this Privacy Policy at any time and for any reason. You will be deemed to have been made aware of, will be subject to, and will be deemed to have accepted the changes in any revised Privacy Policy by your continued use of the Application after the date such revised Privacy Policy is posted. You are encouraged to periodically review this Privacy Policy and obtain the then-current version thereof.

This Privacy Policy does not apply to the third-party online/mobile store from which you install the Application or make payments, which may also collect and use data about you. We are not responsible for any of the data collected by any such third party. You are responsible for reading, understanding, accepting, and complying with any applicable privacy policies, terms of use, or other documents provided by any such third party.

COLLECTION OF YOUR INFORMATION

We may collect information about you in a variety of ways. The information we may collect via the Application depends on the content and materials you use, and includes:

Personal Data

Demographic and other personally identifiable information (such as your name and email address) that you voluntarily give to us when choosing to participate in various activities related to the Application, such as onboarding and responding to surveys.

Derivative Data

Information our servers automatically collect when you access the Application, such as your native actions that are integral to the Application, step count, message responses, as well as other interactions with the Application.

Mobile Device Access

We may request access or permission to certain features from your mobile device, including your mobile device’s notifications, sensors, motion & activity, and other features. If you wish to change our access or permissions, you may do so in your device’s settings. Doing so will impact that performance and experience of the Application.

Mobile Device Data

Device information such as your mobile device ID number, model, manufacturer, version of your operating system, and any other data you choose to provide.

Push Notifications

We may request to send you push notifications regarding your account or the Application. If you wish to opt-out from receiving these types of communications, you may turn them off in your device’s settings. Doing so will impact that performance and experience of the Application.

USE OF YOUR INFORMATION

Having accurate information about you permits us to provide you with a smooth, efficient, and customized experience. Specifically, we may use information collected about you via the Application to:

  1. Compile anonymous statistical data and analysis for use internally or with third parties such as funders, industry partners, or collaborators. This may also include scientific research publications or reports.
  2. Create and manage your account.
  3. Deliver targeted messages or other information regarding your activity and the
    Application to you.

  2. Generate a personal profile about you to make future visits to the Application more
    personalized.
  3. Increase the efficiency and operation of the Application.
  4. Monitor and analyze usage and trends to improve your experience with the Application.
  5. Notify you of updates to the Application.

  7. Monitor against theft, and protect against criminal activity.
  8. Request feedback and contact you about your use of the Application.
  9. Resolve disputes and troubleshoot problems.
  10. Respond to product and customer service requests.

We may share information we have collected about you in certain situations. Your information may be disclosed as follows:

By Law or to Protect Rights

We may preserve or disclose information about you to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; to assert legal rights or defend against legal claims; or to prevent, detect, or investigate illegal activity, fraud, abuse, violations of our terms, or threats to the security of the Services or the physical safety of any person.

Third-Party Service Providers

We may share your information with third parties that process such data or perform services for us or on our behalf, including data analysis, email delivery, hosting services, and market research.

Other Third Parties

We may share your information with funders for the purpose of conducting general business analysis. We may also share your information with such third parties for business strategy purposes, as permitted by law.

SECURITY OF YOUR INFORMATION

We use administrative, technical, and physical security measures to help protect your personal information. While we have taken reasonable steps to secure the personal information you provide to us, please be aware that despite our efforts, no security measures are perfect or

impenetrable, and no method of data transmission can be guaranteed against any interception or other type of misuse. Any information disclosed online is vulnerable to interception and misuse by unauthorized parties. Therefore, we cannot guarantee complete security if you provide personal information. We retain this data for as long as necessary for internal purposes and to conduct scientific research. We may retain the information indefinitely.

POLICY FOR CHILDREN

We do not knowingly solicit information from or market to children under the age of 13. If you become aware of any data we have collected from children under age 13, please contact us using the contact information provided below.

OPTIONS REGARDING YOUR INFORMATION Account Information

You may at any time review or change the information in your account or terminate your account by contacting us at exerciserx@uw.edu. Upon your request to terminate your account, we will deactivate or delete your account and information from our active databases. However, some information may be retained in our files to prevent fraud, troubleshoot problems, assist with any investigations, enforce our Terms of Use and/or comply with legal requirements.

The Application contains certain settings and tools to access and control your personal data, as described below, regardless of where you live. If you live in certain jurisdictions, you may have legal rights with respect to your information, which your account settings and tools allow you to exercise, as outlined below.

Personal Data Access and Export

You may view your step count and message history in the Application. Access to other demographic, survey, or app usage data collected in the app may be obtained by contacting exerciserx@uw.edu.

Editing and Deleting Personal Data

You may contact exerciserx@uw.edu to delete or edit data.

 

Account Deletion

Upon deletion of your account, all information is deleted from Exercise Rx. This includes information used to create your own account, step count data, and survey responses.

Objecting to and Limiting the Use Of Data

You may deny permission for the Application to collect step count and send notifications at any time. You may also object to the further sharing or use of your data by contacting exerciserx@uw.edu. However, such objection may impact the performance of the Application and your eligibility for the study.
