Dear Franklin Elementary School Families,

Connecticut has adopted challenging academic standards, including the Connecticut Core Standards (CCSS) in mathematics and language arts (LA) and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The state has developed the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) to measure student progress in these subject areas with these learning goals.  These results can show where a student is excelling and areas where a student may need extra support. Connecticut requires these assessments at the elementary and middle school levels, grades 3-8 with SBA, and grades 5 & 8 with the NGSS Assessment.

Please keep a few of things in mind throughout the testing windows:

• Try to have your child get a “good” night’s rest.
• Make sure your child comes to school after eating a healthy breakfast. We will also offer breakfast snacks and milk, at no cost, on assessment days. Thank you, FES PTO, for providing this boost for our students!
• Have your child arrive at school on time.
