January 28, 2021 |
Dear Families, In the early hours of the morning this past Tuesday, I came across a launch I used on January 26, 2016. Each day at the end of each class, I sent my students on their way into the abyss of the halls with a word of encouragement or a thought to ponder. The launch I used on January 26th would come to have a significant impact on my life and the life of my students. “Sometimes you have to forget what’s gone, appreciate what remains, and look forward to what’s next.” I do not know who spoke these words so I cannot give their wisdom credit. The context of their application remains a mystery to me. The date and time of their utterance alludes me. Yet, they once again resurface in a time and space when their impact strikes me to the core. During my years as a teacher, I would characterize my planning as obsessive. I assigned my launches in my planner in August. So, as I uttered the words of this quote to each of my classes on January 26, 2016, their impact left me stunned. Later that afternoon, the SkyView community would learn I would serve as the middle school principal for the 2016-2017 school year. Serving this community in a leadership capacity over the past five years offered both joy and sorrow, challenges and celebrations. Together, the leadership team faced obstacles, embraced growth, endured difficulties, and navigated the changing world of education. With each challenge and change, the focus of our efforts remained steadfast, specifically, the safety, well-being, and education of our students. In 1906, after arriving in the United States from Italy, my great grandparents, Rizieri and Rosa Pera, established Roma Bakery. It remains in our family to this day. One hundred and fifteen years later, it continues to provide products for restaurants and shops in the California Bay Area. I learned my leadership style from my grandfather and my great grandfather before him. They never asked any of their employees to do anything they would not first do themselves. They carried that legacy on to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As you know, the SkyView Academy Board of Directors recently named me as the next Head of Schools. I am both honored and humbled by this appointment. I acknowledge the magnitude of the responsibility of this role. My commitment to carry out its duties is unwavering. My decision-making process remains steadfast. Each decision the leadership team and I will make will be filtered through the lens of first the safety and then the education of our students. SkyView Academy employees are the finest staff and faculty I have ever had the privilege to serve. It is my intention to exercise good stewardship of the talents within our staff and faculty. COVID continues to offer opportunities to exercise the wisdom of my launch from January 26, 2016. I respectfully request patience as I meet with the staff and share the opportunities and plans with them first. I look forward to sharing more with the community the week of February 15th. Know this, I remain committed to the leadership style I have demonstrated for the past 5 years. I close this letter acknowledging the fantastic work and commitment of Mrs. Lori Bachtel. For the past five years, I had the honor and privilege of serving alongside her. Her dedication to excellence is something to be commended. Through the challenges and celebrations of the past five years, we found not only a collegial relationship I respect but also a friendship that I treasure. I celebrate her new adventure with bitter-sweet emotion. I am thrilled for her success and new opportunity to further her career. But I will miss her dearly. On behalf of the SkyView community Lori, I offer you my sincerest congratulations and my deepest appreciation for standing next to me for the past five years. Honored to Serve You All, Janet Worley |

Dear Families, As we reach the halfway point of this school year, we want to take a moment to share information about our upcoming state assessments. The following grade level and subject tests are currently scheduled to take place:
While there is still uncertainty and ambiguity surrounding how the COVID-19 pandemic will impact this year’s instructional settings, a typical state assessment administration season is currently scheduled to resume in Spring 2021 as required by state and federal law. This information is based on current expectations; however, with most aspects of education, state assessments may need to be adjusted in response to COVID-19 conditions. We will continue to monitor state and federal assessment requirements and expectations as the school year continues across Colorado and as COVID-19 responses evolve this year. For more information about state testing, please visit the State Mandated Testing page on our school’s website (State Mandated Testing). SkyView’s testing schedule is posted on this page as well (Calendar). We hope you will choose not to excuse your student from state-mandated testing. However, if you choose to do so, please follow the instructions provided on the State Mandated Testing page and complete the excusal process as soon as possible.
