Hyperlink in PowerPoint

This resource focuses on HOW to make hyperlinks descriptive in PowerPoint presentations in Office 365 and 2019. Most steps apply to Office 365 for Web and 2021+ versions (Windows & Mac). For older versions, check Microsoft’s support website.


Add a hyperlink

Microsoft 365/2019

Windows

  1. Place your cursor anywhere on the link or select the text you want to hyperlink.
  2. Click Insert > Link. Alternatively, right-click the hyperlink or the text and select Link
  3. Select the type of link you’re creating, for example, Web Page or Email address.
  4. In the Text to Display textbox, type the descriptive text for the hyperlink
  5. In the Address textbox, type or paste the web address that the descriptive text links to.
  6. Select OK.

Mac

  1. Place your cursor anywhere on the link or select the text you want to hyperlink.
  2. Go to the Insert tab and click on the Link icon. Alternatively, right-click the hyperlink or the text and select Hyperlink
  3. Select the type of link you’re creating, for example, Web Page or Email address.
  4. In the Text to Display textbox, type the descriptive text for the hyperlink
  5. In the Address textbox, type or paste the web address that the descriptive text links to.
  6. Select OK.

Web version

  1. Place your cursor anywhere on the link or select the text you want to hyperlink.
  2. Click Insert > Link. Alternatively, right-click the hyperlink or text and select Link
  3. In the Display text, type the descriptive text for the hyperlink.
  4. In the Address textbox, type or paste the web address. To link to an email address, type “mailto:” followed by the email address.
  5. Select Insert.
