Preface

I never set out to write this book. I wouldn't have believed you if you had told me years ago that I would one day share my journey of faith, transformation, and restoration on these pages. But as I’ve learned repeatedly, God’s blueprint is always greater than our plans.

This book was born from my journey, beginning with a barren backyard and an uncertain heart. When I first stepped into homeownership, I didn’t know that the neglected land behind my house would become the foundation for something far more significant than a garden. But just as I cultivated my backyard, God was cultivating me, teaching me the lessons of patience, perseverance, and faith.

I’ve faced obstacles, disappointments, and seasons where I thought nothing was growing. But through it all, God was working beneath the surface. I now realize that the very things I once feared—starting over, stepping into the unknown, and even public speaking—were the things the enemy tried to use to keep me from walking into my God-ordained purpose. But what the enemy meant for harm, God used for good.

Whether you are restoring a backyard, a dream, or your faith, know this: you are not forgotten. Just like a garden, your life has seasons. And no matter what season you are in, God is working.

Through these pages, you will find my testimony, practical lessons, and encouragement to cultivate the life God intended for you. You’ll see how small steps of faith lead to significant transformations. And most importantly, you’ll be reminded that God’s divine blueprint is never late, never wrong, and always leading you toward something beautiful.

This book was written to remind you that no matter your starting point, you’re never too far from God’s restoration. You are a garden Under Kingdom Construction—and He is still working.

So, let’s begin this journey together. It’s time to break ground.

With gratitude,
Gloria Cassell

Chapter 18: The Birth of The Glo Experience: Cultivating Relationships Through Gardening

Scripture: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.    Romans 8:28

What began as a simple backyard transformation would eventually become much more significant than I imagined.  I believed the hard part was behind me — the tilling, planting, pruning — but I hadn’t yet faced the real test: cultivating peace in the presence of hostility.  And that test came in the form of a neighbor.

Our relationship started as cordial, just like any typical neighborly exchange. Polite greetings. Light conversation. Nothing remarkable — until my garden began to bloom.  As my once barren backyard transformed into a flourishing oasis, so did her demeanor. Over time, it shifted into something cold, unkind, and eventually, unrelenting.

What followed was over three years of harassment — her children, her dog, and even she became instruments of distraction and distress. She made it her mission to disturb my peace. The chaos escalated in 2017, a week before my daughter’s high school prom and graduation, which she ranked in the top ten of her class, which should have been a celebratory time in our lives.  My neighbor’s daughter struck me, and my neighbor also joined in the attack.  I chose to defend myself, and in doing so, my neighbor was injured, which required medical attention by ambulance. That injury became the reason I was arrested and charged with two felonies.

I faced a reality I never expected—not just one but two legal battles: a criminal case to defend myself and a civil lawsuit because she sued me for medical damages and pain and suffering. For over a year, I alternated between walking into criminal court during the day and sitting in small claims court by evening. All of my name, character, and integrity were being questioned.

And yet… I knew I was innocent. I knew the truth. But even in my anger, confusion, and disappointment, I held tightly to one principle that has always carried me through storms: “If you’re in a storm and you had nothing to do with causing it, then God is doing something — just hold on.”

So I held on.

It was a lonely walk. I didn’t always understand. I didn’t always feel strong. But I stayed the course. And God didn’t just show up — He showed out. Every single charge was dropped. And that civil case? The judge awarded her $0.00. Why? Because they couldn’t get their lies in order. God fought for me in the courtroom alone, and I remember asking three current and past neighbors who KNEW her to come and testify in either case. All three had prior commitments, and that's when I knew God was the only witness I needed for both criminal and civil cases.

But that experience changed me.

While the enemy intended to humiliate and break me, God used it to birth The Glo Experiencea vision to help others experience joy, community, peace, and celebration in spaces like the one I built from scratch.

The Glo Experience is more than a brand—it’s healing, redirection, and the fruit of a painful planting season. It reminds us that even the most painful encounters can be used by God to create something beautiful and lasting. Through gardening workshops, special events, weddings, and memorable gatherings, The Glo Experience is designed to do what my neighbor never could—bring people together and cultivate joy.

After enduring a civil and legal storm, The Glo Experience was born, and we launched it with joy and purpose in the garden that witnessed my healing.

What was meant to break me, God used it to build a bridge. That’s what this chapter of my life taught me — and that’s what The Glo Experience represents.

Cultivating Relationships – Breaking Bread & Growing Cultivating Relationships Breaking Bread & Growing Together

Scripture: Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. — Matthew 14:19

Food has been a symbol of fellowship, provision, and divine abundance throughout history. One of the most well-known miracles in the Bible is feeding the 5,000 with just two fish and five loaves of bread. While many focus on the act of faith, few reflect on the deeper meaning of these numbers:

As gardeners, we aren’t just cultivating plants—we are cultivating moments. We are growing opportunities to nourish our bodies, spirits, and communities. This section is about using what we produce to gather people together in a way that reflects God’s perfect provision.

Garden-to-Table: The Power of Sharing Homegrown Food

Imagine hosting a gathering where everything on the table came from your own hands. You nurtured the herbs, vegetables, and fruit and shared them with family, friends, and neighbors.

The following three garden-inspired party themes are designed to encourage fellowship, connection, and shared meals using simple hanging basket gardens. Whether you have a backyard, a balcony, or a small indoor space, you can grow food that brings people together.

Faith Reflection: Just as tea needs time to steep before its full flavor emerges, our faith needs time to deepen before we see its full strength. A garden tea party is a way to slow down, reflect, and embrace the growth process, both in our plants and our spiritual walk.

 Final Thought:

God used a simple backyard transformation to cultivate something greater than I ever imagined. Now, I encourage you to share what you’ve grown.

Like the two fish and five loaves, your small offering—your herbs, vegetables, and garden—can become a moment of divine wholeness when shared with others.

With gratitude and faith,

Gloria Cassell
