By sponsoring a well project, you or your organization can give the gift of water to an entire community! $4,000 builds a well that can support a community of 250 - 1,500 people for years to come. 100% of your funds go directly to support the well project.

Upon completion of the project, you will receive an album with photos of the community, the construction process, and the completed well. Additionally, we will share a link to the well on Google Street View so you can view the well any time. If you choose, we can also include an organization or company logo on the well signboard or a short dedication message.

Q: Can individuals sponsor a well?

A: Anyone is welcome to sponsor a well! In addition to organizations and corporations, individuals, families, teams, or friend groups are welcome to sponsor a well.

Q: What kind of message can I put on the signboard?

A: We are able to include a company logo or a short dedication message. Examples of dedication messages are: "A gift from ______", or "Dedicated to _______".

Q: How do you pick which community well my sponsorship will support?/Where will the well be built?

A: Communities served are identified by our team on the ground in Ghana. The team in Ghana, led by co-founder Rashed Anaba, are all from the region in which we primarily serve. Before WC will commit to funding a well for a community, we assist them in setting up a Community Association that will be tasked with the ongoing maintenance of the wells. We ask that they raise approximately $200 within the community for a maintenance fund that they control. The Community Association signs an agreement, committing to preventative maintenance every 6 months from locally trusted contractors. While the community is responsible for these costs going forward, WC continues to provide oversight, ensuring the preventative maintenance is completed, and that the communities are paying a fair price. Once the agreement is in place, maintenance funds are raised, and the well is funded by generous donors, we begin construction.

Q: Why does the community have to pay for maintenance?

A: Community engagement and capacity building is an important part of creating ownership, responsibility, and independence within the community. By establishing a Community Association the community builds the essential capabilities and self-sustaining systems so they will be able to more independently maintain their well. Of course, WC will still maintain community relationships and provide ongoing support.

Q: What is the well construction process?

A: Construction involves drilling (typically 40-80 meters), installing piping, a concrete platform, hand pump, chlorination, and water quality testing.

Q: How long will it take before the well I sponsor is completed?

A: Once we receive the donation, we will assign one of our future projects to be sponsored by you or your organization. From initial funding to completion, our projects generally take 2-6 months. The timeline varies based on the season. For example, we are unable to drill during the rainy season.

Q: How many people does each well serve?

A: $4,000 builds a well that can support a community of 250 - 1,500 people.

Q: What are the well sponsorship payment options?

A: We recommend submitting payment via Facebook Donate Page because there are no transaction fees. A secondary option is to submit payment via Paypal, but please note that they do charge donation processing fees. If neither of those options work, please contact us for options to pay via check in the mail or via bank transfer.

Q: Where does the money go?

A: 100% of your funds go directly to support our programs. WC operational costs are covered by the board members of WC.
