Environmental and Climate Justice: Community Change Grant

The Environmental and Climate Justice Program funds environmental and climate justice activities to benefit disadvantaged communities through projects that reduce pollution, increase community climate resilience, and build community capacity to address environmental and climate justice challenges.

Communities and community-based groups may apply for financial and technical assistance to:*

• Prevent, monitor and/or lessen the burden of air- and other forms of pollution
• Invest in low- and zero-emissions technologies and related technologies and infrastructure
• Develop a workforce to help reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and other air pollutants
• Lessen the climate and health risks linked to the “urban heat island” effect
• Help prepare for, adapt to and lessen the risks associated with a rapidly changing climate
• Help engage residents, civic organizations and others to reach these goals

Eligible groups include:*

• Community-based nonprofit organizations
• Partnerships between a community-based non-profit and an Indian tribe, local government and/or institution of higher learning
• Partnerships of community-based nonprofit organizations

The ECJ Program is managed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA is providing technical assistance to potential recipients to develop their grant applications, which may be in written, video or oral form. The ECJ Program opened on Nov 21, 2023 and remains open for rolling applications until Nov 21, 2024. Funding will be awarded for up to a three-year period.
