School Day
- The school day officially begins at 8:15am. Arrival after 8:15am will result in a tardy. School dismissal will begin at 3:15pm. School hours for teachers will be 8:00 am until 3:30pm.
- The school doors are opened at 7:20 am each morning. Please do not drop your child off before this time.
- Upon arrival to school, students should proceed to the cafeteria for breakfast. Students who do not wish to eat breakfast will report directly to the gymnasium.
- Children who are eating breakfast at school should arrive no later than 7:50am to avoid being tardy for class.
Morning Drop-Off
- Students who are brought to school by car each day should be dropped off at the front entrance. Please do not exit your car in the school drop-off line. If you must get out of your car for any reason while dropping off your child, you must park in the front parking lot.
- Parents will not be allowed to walk students to class. Parents and/or students are NOT allowed to wait by the classroom doors before students are dismissed from early arrival areas. DO NOT ask teachers to allow your child to enter the classroom before morning dismissal. Teachers who arrive early are planning and preparing for the day.
Afternoon Pick-Up
- Car riders will be dismissed at 3:15pm for pick-up.
- Parents should use the car riders’ lanes to pick up students. We will continue to have two car lines, one in the front of the school and the other to the side.
- All cars using the pickup lanes should have an LES car tag on their rear view mirror. If you need a car tag, please come to the front office. Write your child’s name on the tag in black marker and display from the rear view mirror. This helps us get your child to you quickly.
- We have thoroughly researched area dismissal procedures and determined parents picking up students from the car dismissal route is the safest, most efficient approach. This process allows us to keep security and safety at the forefront of dismissal.
- Parents who are not in the car line, MUST wait until all students have been picked up in the car line. At this time, parents who wish to walk over to pick up your child may do so.
Bus Transportation
- If your child needs to ride a different bus home, a written note stating the bus change and the address for which the child will be riding to should be included in the note. The note should be turned into the office for verification of the change as soon as possible.
- Please do not tell your child to ride a different bus home without a note. The bus driver will NOT allow your child on his/her bus without proper notification.
- Buses will be loaded at approximately 3:40 pm. All students MUST be picked up at this time. Our faculty and staff have responsibilities to their own families and may not be able to stay after the buses leave.
Snack Days
- Each Friday, LES will offer special snacks that can be purchased. Friday snacks will not go through the cafeteria system for purchases. Please send cash with your child for Friday snack purchases. The snack offerings will vary from week to week.
Communication
- Each teacher or grade level at LES sends home a weekly newsletter detailing the upcoming school and classroom events and important academic information.
- A monthly calendar will be published by the school administration.
- A monthly menu will be distributed with breakfast and lunch choices included.
- All classroom teachers use an on-line platform, ClassTag for messaging parents regarding upcoming events, sharing classroom information, and photographs of classroom activities. The ClassTag app will also allow teachers and families to communicate by private message as well.
Related Arts
- Students will take part in three related arts (special areas) for this school year.
- Students will rotate through the related arts on a three day rotation.
- Physical Education will be provided by a certified physical education teacher.
- Music will be taught by a certified music teacher.
- Library will be facilitated by a paraprofessional.
Physical Education
- Physical education is an integral part of the instructional program. All students are required to participate unless excused by a doctor’s note. If on a particular day your child cannot participate, please send a signed note to your child’s teacher. A parent note will be satisfactory for up to three consecutive days. After that time, a doctor’s statement will be required.
Counseling
- LES has a full-time, on-site counselor. We also have a project basic couenslor that works with students in grades K-3.
Lost and Found
- The school has a lost and found bin located in the hallway outside the gym. These items are donated periodically throughout the year. Avoid losing items by writing your child’s name in permanent marker on jackets, sweaters, gloves, scarves, backpacks, lunchboxes, binders, etc.
Breakfast and Lunch are FREE!
- All Union County students receive a free breakfast and lunch daily. Any extra food items may be purchased at a’ la carte prices. Ice cream is available for purchase as well. Parents are welcome to place money on your child’s cafeteria account for additional purchases rather than sending money each day for your child to keep up with when going into the cafeteria.
Medications
- All medications must be registered through the school clinic. This includes prescription and non-prescription medications.
- Prescription medications to be given during school hours require a medicine form to be completed by the prescribing physician.
Cell Phone Policy
- Students may have a cell phone at school, but the phone must be turned off when the student arrives at school. Cell phones must remain in the students’ backpack during the school day.
- Students may not take pictures or video record other students while at school. Please make sure your child understands this policy.
Toys at School
- Toys may NOT be brought to school unless the teacher has given permission for toys on a special occasion. Non-school items can sometimes be a distraction for your child. The school cannot be responsible for the safety of your child’s toys at school.
I look forward to partnering with you to make this an exciting and successful year for our students. Thank you in advance for your support and commitment. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (865) 992-3441 or via email at smiths@ucps.org.
