The 7th grade Language Arts class is designed to help students develop their reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language skills. In this course, students will read a variety of literature and informational texts, and students will read closely to analyze key ideas, details, the author’s style, and text structure. Students will also learn to synthesize information from multiple sources, evaluate sources, and compare two or more texts on similar topics. Students will be exposed to argument, informative/explanatory, and narrative writing. They will perform research tasks, write poetry, and write journals. Students will focus on giving textual evidence to support claims and will sharpen grammar and vocabulary skills based on their individual needs and through exposure to various texts and writing tasks.

Collection 1: Bold Actions
Explore what is means to face challenges fearlessly, even if it means failing in the attempt.
Collection 2: Perception and Reality
Explore how things in life are not always how we perceive them to be.
Collection 4: Risk and Exploration
Encounter individuals who must confront a compelling question: How far is too far?
Collection 6: Guided by a Cause
Consider the question: What inspires people to take action to improve their world?
Test retakes will correspond with the type of assessment given. Students will be made aware of retake requirements prior to administration of the assessment, requirements must be met in order to complete a retake assignment.
