Free Heroes till April 13th

Dechi

I was listening to the recent discussion about hero cost and adjustments that could be made, but I found myself arguing with a podcast about something I have felt passionately about for the past 3 years.

Why aren't all the heroes free?!

I cant tell you the amount of times I have tried to get friends into this game by saying "you can play a rogue just like in WoW!" or "look at all the badass Diablo heroes that you can play!"  but it never happens because they would have to buy them.

I know for myself, whenever a new skin comes out I rip my wallet open and buy everything that piques my interest.  Why wouldn't this be a sustainable business model?  Could you imagine having to pay for each hero in Overwatch?  DOTA, LoL made it work.  Why do we still have a monetary barrier to entry in this game?

Love everything you guys do.  The new HOTSlogs website is great!

How to counter Mal’ganis (in particular Dark Conversion):

AZJackson: Generally what people already said in the thread is the most useful advice - pick heroes that have multiple forms of CC that interrupt his Dark Conversion. The idea is that you can use one of your CC’s to still engage and do your job, and save the secondary one specifically for Dark Conversion. Also you’ll have a good tell of when he wants to use it since he will always want to when he’s at low Health, so you usually have a generous window to look for it if you constantly keep it in mind.

Some heroes that are great to interrupt it:

ETC - his Q and W are fast and easily able to knock him out of his channel

Johanna - Her W and Blessed Shield can be used for an interrupt. Her trait can also be used to try to survive if he gets the ult off on her. This is a little more risky/takes more skill as her W is the main form of an interrupt so you have to pre-emptively cast it as he’s getting low.

Diablo - He has his Q and E to interrupt it quickly. He also has various talents that can reduce the cooldowns of these abilities to ensure that you have one of them available when you need it.

How to counter Xul

AZJackson: Sonya is a strong response to Xul.

A lot of her damage comes from her Abilities, so she is resistant to his W attack speed Slow compared to other Heroes.

She has an early game talent that negates his Root.

Whirlwind’s healing greatly benefits from having more targets, so his skeletons help her in teamfights.

What is up ITN fam!!

I will try to keep this email as short as possible, but I have a few questions that I was hoping y'all could answer! I am a returning player to the nexus (Greymane/Chromie/Butcher/Muradin main, owned every hero, had multiple masteries and every hero was over level 5 so i knew what they did, etc..), after taking quite a long break from the game (When they announced HGC was leaving, I was hardcore mythic raid/guild leading in wow and the game just fell to the side for me). I have since took a break from wow and over the past year I played LoL with my buddies as they moved to that game (which I love and despise at the same time). I heard on the instance that heroes is in the greatest place its been and decided to jump back in! I have binged listened to your past few episodes (was a listener since episode 1 but was sparse listener when i took a break, listening only to catch up on news a few times and to hear you guys cause y'all are awesome) and it brought up a few questions that I ask Kyle on his stream, but decided to email you guys anyway cause I know a lot of people are coming back!

  1. First question is was there or did they ever do an mmr reset, soft reset or anything? Reason I ask was HOTS was my first moba, and I RUINED my mmr learning the game, however as I got better and better my mmr stayed low. My gold/plat friends would make fun of me/never understand how I couldn't climb out of silver cause they would admit I was a better player and had more game knowledge than them. It was honestly the MOST frustrating part of the game for me. If they haven't its not gonna deter me from playing the game more (I am fully invested back in), but it would be nice to know I can hone my skills again and actually climb.

  1. Second, I have heard you guys say things about XP globes??? I am so confused on this mechanic and not sure how things are playing out with it? Could you explain how it works, in a nutshell?

https://heroesofthestorm.gamepedia.com/Experience_Globe

  1. Third, Are there lanes now? I have heard you guys talk about solo top laners and has me questioning where everyone is supposed to be/go. I assume bruisers top? So where does that make assassins/tank/healers go and is there a place I can look this up?

Depends on the map.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IDYpfIfYxFKu4wvBbHJFtAlMjL_pHWEMcSWG3kGiT8A/edit#gid=1700480857

  1. Lastly, What is the preferred comp right now? I know it differs based on A LOT of variables like map and team comp, but I'd like an idea of what I should be looking to play to fill a need. Is it full tank, bruiser, double ranged assassin and healer or should I be thinking differently.

Comps right now are a balancing act of CC, Damage and Wave Clear without clogging positioning. Cover these early and you have room for counter picks.

I know this is kind of long and feel free to cut what needed to play in the show if you do play it, I just know I am seeing ALOT of people coming back and have these same questions and figured a show or question session would be best as I often refer people to your show for game knowledge. Maybe do a 'in a nutshell' discussion about 'so you haven't played since hgc cancel, what do you need to know now' and go over whats in the game at the current state instead of the progression to get to it!

Anyway it turned out way longer than I wanted but I wanted you guys to know I love the heck out of all your content and have been a listener to most of your shows since day 1 of them. Thanks so much for what your doing cause it is certainly a ray of sunshine in these crazy days

Much Love!!

Emails

Ken

Hey Garrett and Kyle,

I hope this email finds you both healthy and well.  Love the podcast, I listen to it whenever I can on my nightshifts.

Just a quick question, what are the counters to the KTZ combo?        I often find myself in a draft vs KTZ and think to myself- "oh this is going to be one of those games..."  I think the only build he has is the 100 to 0 combo build...

Specifically healer picks ie. Karazim w/ divine palm?  talent into movement speed to make landing chains harder?  Have a combo assassin of your own ie: Tracer or Zeratul to counter?
