Software Installation Request Procedures

for Computer Labs and Classrooms

Software installations, whether in a traditional or virtual setting, require adequate time for  planning, installation, and testing. In an effort to provide more successful and timely  delivery of software services, the Division of Information Technology (DIT) has  developed a set of procedures for faculty and staff to request software installation  services in computer labs and classrooms. Included in these procedures is a timeline by  which requests must be submitted for consideration.

Requestors are required to consult with the Service Desk prior to purchasing software to  ensure (1) there is no duplication of licensing, (2) compatibility with the current IT  infrastructure, and (3) compliance with security and policies. Before submitting a  software installation request in a computer lab, review the list of currently available  software by visiting our Computer Lab website (www.morgan.edu/ComputerLabs) to  ensure the software you are requesting is not already available in that space. Check the  Software Library to see a list of software available to students in the Virtual Computer  Labs (VCL) environment.

Software Request Deadlines are as follows:

For Fall semester installations: the first Monday in the month of June

For Spring semester installations: the first Monday in the month of November

For Summer session installations: the first Monday in the month of April

Requestors are responsible for completing each of the steps listed below before the  software request deadline:

1. Obtaining departmental approval and funds for the purchase;

2. Consulting with the Service Desk about the software purchase;

3. Making the software purchase (contingent upon DIT approval);

4. Completing the Software Installation Request Form; and

5. Providing installation media and license keys for software to DIT

Please note that requestors are responsible for testing and verifying the software installation. The DIT cannot guarantee that software requests and software media/keys  obtained after the deadline will be installed and available for the semester requested.  Questions about these procedures should be directed to the Service Desk (x4357 or ServiceDesk@morgan.edu).

Thank you.
