Zoo Brew 2018

Unfortunately, the Potawatomi Zoo getting a license to sell beer and wine at the zoo had consequences that we think the zoo didn’t think about…  Because of having this licensing, they are required to work through a distributor to get beer and wine on the premises.  Therefore, they are changing up the event.  This means we will not be able to be a part of this event as well as any brewery that doesn’t currently work through a distributor.

MEGA Barrel Project - Many MEGA members are currently participating in 2 barrel projects, both second run barrels.  The current beers in these barrels are a Wee Heavy and an Imperial Porter.  Those involved in the second run barrels will gather to collect their share on July 15.  The next run in at least 1 of these barrels will be a sour beer.  If you would like to participate in future barrel projects, post in the forum on the website or bring it up in one of the upcoming meetings.

Join the AHA - If you are a serious homebrewer and not yet a member of the American Homebrewers Association, you should consider becoming one!  Enjoy AHA Member Deals at over a thousand participating locations including breweries, pubs, restaurants, homebrew supply shops and more!  Enjoy six issues per year of Zymurgy, the longest-running homebrew magazine, delivered straight to your door.  Membership allows you to participate in exclusive events including Homebrew Con, National Homebrew Competition, AHA Rallies and more.  To join, click on the banner at the bottom of the MEGA homepage or CLICK HERE!

MEGA Work Shirts - MEGA ordered more of the popular MEGA Work Shirt! These shirts are great to wear at events or just to represent MEGA during your brew day.  The work shirts are Dickies-branded short sleeve blended material  (65% polyester/35% cotton, Moisture-Wicking).  Color is charcoal with gold and white MEGA logo on left chest and large on Back.  Shirts ar $35.  Check with the club for available sizes.

MEGA Sample Glasses - MEGA received the sample glasses that were ordered.  Those who already pre-ordered should get their glasses at the next few meetings and any remaining glasses will be available for members and sold at events.  If you are interested in getting some sample glasses, speak up at a meeting or other MEGA event.  They are $5.25 for members and $6.00 for non-members.

Past Events

Bottlecaps & Corks

June 30,, Wellfield Botanic Gardens

MEGA won the inaugural award for the best participation by a homebrew club!  Unfortunately, we did not have anyone whose beers placed in the top 3 of the judging or win the people’s choice.  However, we have some ideas on how to work with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Elkhart County to make their judging more fair.

Mishawaka Festival of Beers (formerly Mayfest)

June 30, Kamm Island

MEGA had some volunteer pourers at the event during this HOT Saturday.  We did not have a MEGA booth due to Bottlecaps & Corks being on the same day.  This will be avoided next year since Mishawaka Festival of Beers will either continue with this weekend or discontinue, allowing Bottlecaps & Corks to pick a date that will not be a conflict.

Homebrew Con 2018

June 28-30, Oregon Convention Center

Homebrewcon was great as always!  There were a lot of great commercial beers from Oregon at the event.  There were many great lectures as well.  One lecture was giving out a hybrid sour strain asking for feedback on the results.  If anyone is interested in trying this strain out, speak up.
