The Great Fire Of London
In 1666 a fire started in the middle of London. The fire burnt down 13,000 buildings. People blew up houses with gunpower to stop the fire spreading. People grabbed what they could and ran as fast as they could. The fire burnt for five days. The huge flames reached high into the sky. Less than ten people died. 90 churches were burnt to a crisp. St Paul's Cathedral's metal roof was melting. The hot embers covered the city. People could not go on the hot street. On the 5th of September the wind dropped and the fire slowly died out.
