IIT-Hyderabad has joined the eduroam (Education Roaming) community.  Any active faculty, Student or staff of IITH visiting other eduroam participating institutions in the world will be able to gain access to the wireless internet on their personal devices and laptops by using IITH login credentials.

What is eduroam?

Eduroam is a worldwide internet access service developed for the international research and education community. EduRoam is available at several thousand locations in over 60 countries. With IIT-Hyderabad’s participation in eduroam, faculty, students, researchers and staff can obtain internet connectivity when visiting other participating institutions around the world.

Also, visitors to IITH will be able to connect to the ‘eduroam’ Wi-Fi network with their respective university's login credentials provided that they could be authenticated by their home institutions. IITH users visiting the eduroam partnered universities in almost 60 countries can use free WiFi with their IITH Wi-Fi user-ID and Password with some Wi-Fi Profile settings in their devices. To make the configuration process simple in Windows machines, ISAC-NOC developed scripts that will automatically create eduroam settings in your  Windows machine.

How do I access eduroam with my IITH credentials?

IITH users need not create any new account to use eduroam Wi-Fi service. You can use your existing IITH Wi-Fi username and Password (not AIMS/Proxy password) to connect to eduroam Wi-Fi network. ISAC-NOC has provided some configuration documents for various operating systems. To make the configuration process simple in Windows machines, ISAC-NOC developed scripts that will automatically create eduroam settings in your Windows machine. After successful execution of the scripts you just have to click on the Wi-Fi logo on taskbar and select eduroam as your Wi-Fi network and provide your username@iith.ac.in and Password. Again note that you should provide your username as username followed by domain name i.e., username@iith.ac.in and your Wi-Fi Password. You have to be a current faculty, student or staff of IIT-Hyderabad to access the service.

Configuration steps in brief:

All members from IIT-Hyderabad can connect to the EDUROAM SSID using their Wi-Fi login user-id@iith.ac.in and password. They have to set their laptop/mobile to use  WPA2 Enterprise based encryption for authentication and use the EAP method as PEAP with MSCHAPv2 as the inner-tunnel method. We have successfully tested the connectivity in Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and ubuntu 16.04LTS,  MAC OS and Android  OS.
