From the Headteacher

School Disco 29th November.

Just a reminder to send in your disco forms for Reception and Key Stage One by this Friday.

Key Stage Two will be pay on the door.

You will have seen from the poster that went out last week that we are making a small increase to the cost of the KS2 disco.

In previous years the income from the Craft Fair meant that we were able to hold the event without needing to make a profit or even be certain it would cover its costs, and this enabled us to keep the price down. Now that we are no longer holding the Craft Fair and after spending all the money on the new amazing blue surface we have decided to increase the cost by 50p in order to ensure we can still keep the same format and have a professional DJ.

The KS1 children will be having a smaller disco in-house, rather than the children’s entertainer they have had in recent years. This means that their event is less expensive and we have reduced the cost of that accordingly.

Thank you to the PTA for organising this event and thank you to you all for support it.

School Christmas Dinner

Our catering team will be laying on a traditional Christmas Lunch, with vegetarian option (and crackers!), on Wednesday 13th December for the whole school to enjoy.
We anticipate that all children will attend but please let the School Office know by Monday 4th December if your child will be bringing a packed lunch instead.

Elf Enterprise Week

On Wednesday the 13th of December from 3.00 to 4.30 pm we will be having a Christmas Sale in the hall, library and some classrooms.

The items on sale will be decorations and goodies that the children will have made during our Elf Enterprise Week!  There will be a prize for the class who make the most profit so bring lots of money!

The PTA will be running a tombola and a tea / coffee/ cake stall.

Wool

Do you have any spare balls of unused wool at home? Ideally Christmassy colours but any colour will do!  One class will be using this to make their decoration for the sale!

Reading volunteers

We are looking for parents who can commit to an afternoon per week to help as reading volunteers in Key Stage 2. Training will be provided for reading and safeguarding. Please let Sammy or Mrs Sánchez know if you can help.

Remembrance Day

I would like to say a huge thank you to all of you who bought poppies and other items in the week before Remembrance Day.  We haven’t yet heard the official amount raised, but from feeling the weight of the collection jar I am sure it will be a lot - thank you for donating to this excellent cause!

Children In Need

We raised £172 for Children In Need from our non School uniform day - Thank you!

Coats

Now the weather is getting cold, please ensure your child has a coat every day.

Clive Goddard - Children’s Author

On 22nd Nov Clive Goddard, an entertaining children's author, will be hosting an assembly for children in Y3 - 6 from 2pm. Parents are invited to come along and see what the children get up to - it promises to be an engaging session! Clive will be discussing his books - the Fintan Fedora series (3 books) about a boy explorer. Clive also illustrated the successful Horribly Famous series.

The author visit is free to the school but Clive relies on book sales to fund his session. We would encourage parents to get involved to support the reading experience for their child.

Clive will sign all books purchased as a special memento. All books are £6. Parents may purchase the books with their child at the end of the day - you are welcome to attend the assembly at 2pm or come in after school. If you are unable to attend then you may send your child with £6 in a sealed, named envelope to be passed to the office or your child's class teacher.

We are looking forward to the visit!

Join one of the working groups for the future of Didcot Garden Town

An exciting opportunity has arisen for local residents, business and community group leaders to become actively involved in shaping the whole garden town area.

Working groups are being formed for different sectors within the garden town plans such as environment, leisure and culture, science and innovation, education and health.  Each group will be self-directing and will sue their expertise to provide ideas and suggestions to form the garden town strategy and directly influence the town’s future.

People can find out more information on how to join the working groups by registering to attend a presentation on 21 November at Cornerstone in Didcot.  The event will have two sessions 12 – 2pm and 6.30 – 8.30pm some of the new garden town board members attending.

There will also be a drop-in display on the new board and governance structure available from 2.30 – 5.30pm on the same date.

To register your interest in attending one of the sessions on 21 November or to join one or more working group, please email info@didcotgardentown.co.uk.  Deadline to attend the event is 14 November.  More information on the working groups can be found at www.didcotgardentown.co.uk
