Spring Dance Recital 2019

REMINDERS

The spring recital is quickly approaching, and we couldn’t be more excited for the performance.

This letter will provide you with all the information you will need - most of this is the same information you got with your recital contract, but we have added costume info, show orders, and more.  We know that there is a lot of information here, but it is all important.  Please save this letter in a safe place until the show is over, as you will want to refer to it as the recital nears. If you have any questions about the show, please first review the info, then email the studio.

NON-PERFORMING CLASSES:

The following classes will not perform in the recital and therefore will not attend studio or dress rehearsals.  Instead they will have regular classes as follows:

IN-STUDIO REHEARSALS:

We will not be having regular dance classes from May 20th – May 24th.  Instead we will be having in-studio rehearsals at Rhythms.  (These rehearsals are NOT in costume; just wear regular dance clothes)  These rehearsals are very important, however we will try to accommodate students who cannot make it because of other commitments.  Please see the Recital Spreadsheet for your child’s studio rehearsal times.

Monday, May 20th: FINALE REHEARSAL (OPTIONAL):

During our last week’s of classes and at studio rehearsals, all Rhythms dancers will learn the very end of the finale dance so we can have one big whole cast moment.  Everyone will be wearing their Recital Tee (included in your production fee) and black bottoms.

Some dancers signed up on their contract to be a bigger part of the finale (and are in 6th grade or above).  Please see finale section (later in this document) for who signed up and when they will rehearse.

DRESS REHEARSALS at the Petaluma Vet’s Auditorium:

Please arrive on time or early with ALL costumes and shoes at the theater in Petaluma!  Please see the Recital Spreadsheet for your child’s dress rehearsal times.  Dress rehearsals include costumes, shoes, tights, and hair.  Makeup is not required.

ADMISSION:

Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.  We do not sell any tickets at the studio.  Stadium seating is $12.  Priority seating (circular tables near the front of the stage) is $16.  Children 5 and under may attend for free if they sit in a parent’s lap.  Tickets may be purchased online beginning on Monday, May 20th using this link: https://rhythmsperformingarts.thundertix.com .  This link will not be working until May 20th.

There will be a limited number of tickets for sale at the door on the day of the show.  The doors will open thirty minutes before show time; parents will not be allowed into the theater prior to doors opening so saving seats before that time will not be allowed.

COSTUMES:

All costume info is included at the end of this letter.

COSTUME RETURN:

Students MUST return their costumes to the studio during the week after the show during one of the following times:

        Wednesday, June 5th from 5:00-7:00pm

        Thursday, June 6th from 4:00-6:00pm

After washing your costumes according to the tags, please stop by at your convenience and turn in all costumes.  Dancers who do not turn in all costumes by Thursday, June 6th at 6:00pm will be charged a $25 late fee.  If you cannot drop off your costumes during the specified times, talk to Megan BEFORE the recital day to arrange returning your costumes.  If you lose any costumes, you will be charged a $50 fee.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS:

We still have lots of jobs that need to be filled!  Remember, every Rhythms family is required to volunteer for the recital or another event during this semester.  There are many different jobs to be done, and we are sure you will find one that suits you.  You can volunteer through our volunteer website http://signup.com/go/WezNRK.  Sign up early to assure you get a job you like and are available for.  If you choose not to volunteer, you can also opt out by paying an additional fee of $25.  Families with two dancers are required to fill two volunteer positions.  Please note, if you volunteer for a job during or before the recital, you are not allowed to come in early to save a seat.  We recommend either volunteering at one show and coming to watch another, or having another family member save a seat for you when the theater opens.

CLEANING UP:

After the shows, students will not be allowed to leave until the theater is completely cleaned up.  All personal items must be put into dance bags, garbage must be picked up, and the room straightened.  Having the students clean up after their show is an important part of learning to be a good performer.  We believe that it teaches the students to work as a team and to be responsible.  We hope you will help us by reminding your students about this policy.

IMPORTANT DATES:

In case you are feeling a little overwhelmed by all of these dates, here is a concise overview:

A Reminder about the Recital:

Our goal for our recitals is to focus on a great process!   The product should be fun and entertaining, but it is not our #1 goal.  As our students work through the semester, we remind them that the goal is to have fun and focus on their whole dance education - not just their recital!  Recital weekend is a big highlight for all of our dancers, but mainly that is because they get to make new friends and have lots of fun bonding time.  Performing a great show for a live audience is just the icing on the cake!

COSTUME INFO

Please go over the costume info below.  Each dance is listed by style with the costumes the dancers will wear.  Items in bold are ones that the dancer is responsible for providing themselves.

If you need to buy anything for this show, we recommend DiscountDance.com or DancewearSolutions.com.  They are affordable, sell great products, and have almost everything in stock.  We have found that they are very quick too; you should get your items in plenty of time if you order now.   There is also a store in Southern Novato called Marin Dance and Theatrical Supply.  The staff is very helpful!

FLOWER ORDERS

Below is a list of the people who ordered flowers on their recital contract.

If you are not on the list and would like to pre-order some flowers, be sure to email us before May 5th!  A single rose is $5 and a small bouquet is $15.

We have already added the flower charges to your account so you can pay with your May tuition; credit cards on file will have those charged on May 1.
