Dear Parents and Guardians,

A new truancy law has been passed by the Kentucky legislature and we want to inform you of the details of this new law as it immediately impacts how our district is required to respond in instances of chronic absenteeism and/or tardiness. The new law states that if your child(ren) has 15 unexcused absences and/or events (events can be tardies, early check-outs, late check-ins, etc.), the Warren County Public Schools district has a legal obligation to refer you to the Warren County Attorney’s Office, where parents/guardians and children risk being referred to court. If you would like to read the law, please click here.

As a reminder, for a tardy or absence to be excused, a student is required to submit a parent or doctor’s note.

Excused Absences:

Our goal is to work with you on behalf of your child(ren) to ensure maximum success in our schools! There is a direct correlation between student attendance and student achievement and our priority is to support you in helping your child(ren) learn at the highest level.

In circumstances where you know your child will be absent for extended periods of time (e.g., extensive surgery, extended hospitalization, etc.), please contact your school’s principal.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Jeff Moore, Director of Pupil Personnel, at jeff.moore@warren.kyschools.us or by calling (270) 781-5150. Thank you.

Respectfully,

Rob Clayton

Superintendent, Warren County Public Schools
