Culmination and Activity Eligibility Criteria
To earn a Certificate of Completion, and participate in Culmination and other activities[1], including FIYA basketball, students will be evaluated based on the following criteria earned in the eighth grade.
Additionally the following criteria is used for all students to determine participation eligibility in fun school-wide events and activities such as dances, festivals, movie nights, etc….
- Earn a minimum of 7 “D”s or better in their 8 academic classes (including the small group instruction class).
- Earn a minimum of 15 (of 18) Es or Ss in total in the Spring Semester of 8th grade or in any marking period to participate in activities for that marking period.
- Students must not have committed frequent and/or severe discipline infractions[2] in their eighth grade year or in the marking period of the activity.
- A severe discipline infraction can be defined as: Category II or III offenses. (Category I results in automatic recommendation for expulsion.
- Frequent or serious violations (Category II III) of school regulations can disqualify a student from participating in culmination and other 8th grade activity.
- Students must be in attendance at school at a rate of 96% or higher.
- Students must have turned in all their issued textbooks and issued technology devices/items in accordance with the LAUSD restitution policy.
The School Culmination/Activities Committee will make a final determination regarding whether each student has met the culmination/activities requirements. Any appeals must be submitted in writing to the committee.
