Math:   Used multiplication properties to multiply effectively.

ELA:
In Fundations, we  completed Unit 1.  Students learned that w and qu change the sound of a.  Students  also learned the cursive loop letters b, f, and k.

 We also began Module 1: The Sea in our Wit and Wisdom Curriculum.  Students  asked and answered questions about “The Sea Wind” by Sara Teasdale to demonstrate understanding of the poem’s central message.  Students also practiced identifying key details and central messages of The Great Wave,  The Boating Party and/or The Gulf Stream. We also work on identifying nouns and verbs and explaining their function in a sentence.  Together, we wrote a topic statement for a paragraph.

Science/ Social Studies:  learned about different types of bodies of water.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL): recognized Labor Day.

Next Week We Will…

Math: do division using units of 2 and 3.  We will also do multiplication and division using units of 4.

ELA:
 In Fundations, we will complete Unit 1 and take our first Fundations Unit Test.  We will begin Fundations Unit 2.  We will review the concept of plurals and how to add the suffixes -s, -es.  We will also review suffixes -ing, and -ed, -er, and -est. Students will learn the cursive up/down letter i, j, and p.

In Wit and Wisdom, we will notice and wonder about a new fictional text, Amos and Boris. We will identify the story elements, explain how the illustrations and word choices depict the sea, and build an understanding of how an author groups related information together and why organization is important. We will continue to explain how a noun and verb function to create a sentence and identify adverbs with the morpheme -ly

Science/ Social Studies: begin learning about different landforms.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL): This week we will introduce Hispanic Heritage month and students will learn about the difference between Hispanics and Latinos.  Students will learn why these terms aren’t interchangeable and discover some of the different Spanish-speaking countries around the world.

Moments to Celebrate!

Almost all third graders finished the iReady assessments. We begin CLIMB groups next week.
