Volunteering in Academy IISD

Academy ISD welcomes and encourages parents, grandparents, family members, and community members to get involved in our schools by volunteering. To volunteer at any district location or district-sponsored event, you must complete a criminal background check, which will be conducted using the information provided in your volunteer application.

A new application is required each school year. Please allow up to one week for processing. Background checks are confidential—campus staff will not receive any detailed information and will only be able to see if a volunteer has been approved to volunteer.

Two key steps to Volunteer:

1. Complete the Volunteer Application
2. Complete Volunteer Training - which is embedded in the Volunteer Application for completion.
3. When you are ready to begin volunteering, please reach out to the campus to coordinate a time for volunteering or to learn more about volunteering opportunities/campus needs.

Am I a visitor or volunteer?

Visitors:

If you are a visitor a volunteer application/background check is not required.

A visitor is someone who would like to visit their child at school or attend campus functions/eat lunch with their child. A visitor does not interact with students other than their own. A visitor should not fill out the Volunteer application. A visitor may simply sign-in at the front office. (Note: first-time visitors to a campus will be asked to present a driver’s license or photo ID to be scanned into the Raptor system at the time of their visit first.)

Visitor Examples:

• Visiting or observing their own children in class
• Having lunch with their children
• Attending classroom and school events/parties

Volunteers:

If you are a volunteer a volunteer application/background check is required.

A volunteer is a person rendering instructional services for or on behalf of the school/district. Volunteers are given an assignment or task dealing directly with children other than their own while on campus or school-sponsored trips. A parent or guardian who would like to do more than just visit their child, by offering to help the school in some way, is considered a volunteer. Volunteers must complete a Volunteer application and have an annual background check completed by the District before being considered for volunteer duties
