Sunday CC Roundup 10/6

The goal was simple for the Okaloosa County Cross Country Championship...keep the County Championship winning streaks going, and the teams did just that.  The day began with the varsity girls race, with the Niceville girls taking 6 out of the top 12 spots to win easily by 22 points.  Next the varsity boys took 5 of the first  8 spots to win by 23 points with freshman Kaden Levings bringing home the individual championship.  The JV girls had their work cut out for them with FWB taking 1st, 3rd, & 4th, but we took 2nd and then 5th - 11th to win by a mere 3 points.  Finally the JV boys dominated their race taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 8th, and 10th to win by 28 points with freshman Noah Hunter bringing home the individual championship.  Full results available here.    Updated season best times can be found at our team page on  Boys and Girls

Pre-State Information

Important Change: Unfortunately, we are not going to be able to provide transportation to Pre-State for JV team. Everyone will be entered but will have to arrange their own transportation to Tallahassee.  Since the team is not arranging nor providing transportation, there are no restrictions regarding how athletes get there, with the exception that they not drive themselves. For example, Mr Smith can take his son Sam plus Sam’s friend Joe and Mike to and from the meet.

(To make up for this change we have added an open race to be held at NWFSC on Tuesday, 10/22.  5k open race 4:00.  elementary/ms 3k open race 4:45.)

Entries below...if you are listed and know that you are not running, please notify me as we are paying $5 for every JV runner over 10.  If you aren’t listed and ARE going I need to know that too (band people).  If you aren’t sure you are going because you aren’t sure how you are getting there, then I will leave you entered.

“Runners of the Week”

Varsity Boys

Senior Dane Dickerson had a great race, breaking 17 minutes on a cross country course for the first time in his career.  Dane broke his leg during a meet his sophomore year and had a long road of recovery.  It is great to see him running in such good form.

Varsity Girls

Showing the spark that has been hidden in her this season, Junior Ellie Segars ran the best race of her season and ran a strong last mile making up close to 20 seconds on the girls ahead of her to just narrowly miss finishing 3rd.

JV Boys

Freshman Noah Hunter got after it from the gun, leading essentially start to finish to win by 11 seconds over teammate Will Jetton.  Noah ran a season best by 30 seconds and would have been the #7 for us in the varsity race!

JV Girls

Sophomore Elle Wise had an amazing race Saturday, dropping 1:41 off of her PR to be the Eagles #2 runner in the JV race and finish 5th overall.  This is without a doubt the best race Elle has run in her two years of cross country at Niceville!

Tell me about your family...

My parents have given me everything to run my hardest and fastest and I am truly thankful. Without them, their encouragement and support I would not be there. Finally, I have a brother who when nice helps me through tough times, so thanks.

I have two sisters and a loving father and mother

When did you start running? Why did you start running?

sophomore year. I started running because I took a break off from soccer and wanted to stay active. I did 5ks to keep in shape, so I joined cross country. How hard could it be?
