ASL - Translation of “Who wanted to defund the police?” (Part 2)

        The Democrats are still blaming the Republicans for defunding the police.  Today, I will list many of the cities that have defunded the police.  Seventeen of these cities are the following: Seattle; Portland, Oregon; Los Angeles, California; Dallas, Texas; Denver, Colorado; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Chicago, Illinois; Louisville, Kentucky; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Detroit, Michigan; Boston, Massachusetts; New York City; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Baltimore, Maryland; Washington, DC; Arlington, Texas; and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  

        Of these seventeen cities, only two are controlled by Republicans - Arlington, Texas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  This means that fifteen of these seventeen cities that defunded the police are run by Democrats.  

        Politicians have demanded defunding the police.  All of them are Democrats.  I will discuss three - Rashida Tlaib, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Ilhan Omar.  Rashida Tlaib tweeted, “When we say defund the police, it means people are dying.  This must change.  We must invest in people’s livelihoods.  For example, last year, Detroit’s police budget was $294 million.  Detroit spent just $9 million on healthcare.  That is systemic oppression.”

        Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, “In one city, we spend $6 billion on the police, and people say that we should fix police brutality by spending more money.”  Also, AOC said that a city without police looks like a rich, white suburb.

        Ilhan Omar tweeted, “Demanding defunding the police means that we want a new policing system.  We want a system that doesn’t oppress us.  Additionally, we can move money around to invest in community services.  People who have always opposed change will always oppose systemic change.”

        Again I ask, who wants to defund the police?  Republicans or Democrats?  Clearly not Republicans.
