Four Island snorkeling trip

We head out on a longtail boat for a snorkeling trip around Four Islands (Koh), including Koh Poda, Koh Tub, Koh Mor, and Koh Gai/Chicken Island.

The 45 minute trip out is smooth, thank goodness, for those of us who get motion sick.

It could not have been a more beautiful day!

Our first stop is Koh Poda (Poda Island) where we swim and try out some snorkeling.

A huge rock off of Koh Poda

The huge rock from a different angle.

We stop off on an island with a cool little cove, where the kids enjoy a little beach time.

This is the view from up in a cave on the island.

We stop on the sandbar between that connects Koh Tub, Koh Mor and Chicken Island.  It is very crowded, so we don’t stay long.  It’s the halfway point for tourists coming from Phuket to Phi Phi Island.

Our final stop is Koh Gai (Chicken Island as nicknamed by the first Krabi tourists) where we have a great time snorkeling and jumping off the boat!

The actual name is Koh Hua Gwan (Axe Island).

We think it looks like it should be called “Turkey Island!”

And now Hayden is one with the fish!

Eliza and Lydia in a school!  This is the best kind of schooling we could do!

Just like on our honeymoon in Bali, where we learned to scuba dive!

Swimming under the boat!

The fish love watermelon!

Katie found a way to snorkel without having to actually go too far underwater and enabling her to keep her hands out!

We have a new boat captain!

A huge catch!

A little too much sun for this fish!

The monkeys were happy to get fruit scrap snacks (thrown to them by our snorkel guide).

Swimming for it!

Goodbye to our super smiley boat captain.

Post-snorkel dinner!

After a fun-filled, sun-filled day, we try a new restaurant on the beach.  Notice the No Durian sign.  We still haven’t tried fresh Durian (we like the Durian chips which taste like potato chips) but have heard it tastes terrible and smells even worse!  Hayden took this pic for his World Geo teacher who asked if he’d tried it yet.

Fun with the silly sunglasses!

The kids found a fun beach swing!

Another gorgeous sunset.

Lydia and Hayden spend an hour or so after dinner digging this tire out of the sand.  Then they rig it onto a wooden swing to make it a tire swing.

The front of the restaurant, all lit up!
