Considering making an application?

Before making an application to Pledge2Learn, the authorising host school (or LA) would discuss the application with a member of the Pledge2Learn Team.  This would be followed up with an initial viewing on site with the young person along with parents/ carers, and host school (including virtual school) representatives.

Viewing the Provision

The viewing is an important step as it allows the young person to visit the provision and helps them to get a feel for what is on offer for them.  This visit is also a time to help the young person to start to consider what Pledges (or commitments) they will make towards their own personal learning journey.

The viewing is also a time for us to consider types of interventions and to match key workers with the young person ready for a successful new start on their learning journey with us.

All students (and staff) are required to wear the school uniform and this can be ordered ready for purchase and allocation to the student when they commence their placement.  Uniform is subsidised by Pledge2Learn.  Please check with a member of staff for costs.

Once the visit has taken place and the young person is ready to make a commitment (pledge) to learn; then the host school, with the consent of parents/ carers, can complete the application form along with supporting documents.  This information will then need to be returned by email to ApplicationForASchoolPlace@pledge2learn.co.uk

Once all of the information has been received a decision can be made regarding the offer of a placement at Pledge2Learn.

Information about making an application

Applications to request a placement for a young person is to be made via the Pledge2Learn application form.  Applications can be made using the latest application form via the website and must be completed fully and be accompanied by relevant supporting paperwork including, but not limited to, EHC Plan, Early Help Assessments and Plans, Risk Assessments and any other relevant documentation to enable the provision to be tailored around young people’s needs and abilities.  Application MUST highlight all identified risks, safeguarding and health needs.  If there are safeguarding concerns then the referring school MUST make us aware and will request details of how to share confidential information.

Additional student support needs over and above the regular placement offer will be discussed at the time of the application, or at the earliest opportunity as they become known.

Please Note: Incomplete application forms will NOT be accepted.

While at the placement

Young people will engage in a person centred timetable that is adapted to their individual needs and will enable them to work towards their agreed Pledges with support.  An initial phasing-in period is required and supports children with SEMH needs to settle in and become successfully established in the learning journey. This phasing-in period should be completed within the first three weeks and not usually longer than half term.  If a student is still finding it difficult to access the provision this will be reviewed with the student, their family and the referring school/local authority.  Pledge2Learn reserves the right to adjust the students hours, such as for part of any planned reintegration, or if time is needed to put in place additional support for the student to successfully access education.
