Listen First Project

Move to Amend
Rejects the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Citizens United and other related cases and moves to amend the Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights. Efforts include supporting the freedom to vote, a Supreme Court code of ethics, Supreme Court term limits; public financing of elections to reduce the power of wealthy donors; election of democracy champions; legislation that would ban members of Congress from buying and selling individual stocks; replacing the electoral college with a national popular vote; making D.C. the 51st state; preventing abuse of Presidential power; and ending the filibuster.

Encourages journalists to emphasize Solutions Journalism, asking what is dividing us on this issue, how do we decide what information to trust, what is oversimplified about this issue, what are the nuances and complexities of the issue, and is there any part of the other sides position that makes sense to you? Team Democracy
Team Democracy brings Americans of all political perspectives together around our shared commitment to the core principles of our Democratic Republic. It promotes and amplifies positive messages and actions that underscore the importance of our democratic institutions, norms and processes. Programs include its Civics Credentialing Platform; Reuniting America by Fostering Trust (R.A.F.T.), which organizes rafting adventures among Red/Blue pairs of American governors, lawmakers and everyday citizens (highlighting we are 'all in the same boat' and do better by pulling together, rather than by pulling apart); and, in cooperation with the Carter and Ford Presidential Centers, Team Democracy is using its experience and technology with the Safe and Fair Elections Pledge to earn commitments from candidates, incumbents, and everyday citizens to the core principles of our lawful electoral processes. Its Candidate Principles for Trusted Elections represent a nonpartisan, common ground space from which we can begin to rebuild confidence in our country, the political system, and the people elected to represent us.

Third Act is a community of over 70,000 Americans over 60 years of age determined to change the world for the better. Founded by Bill McKibben, it harnesses unparalleled power of older generations' life experiences, skills and resources, and perspective, to focus on safeguarding the climate and democracy. Third Act hosts national community-wide calls, workshops, trainings and thematic, facilitated conversations that build skills, deepen interest and get people working together on the pressing issues of our time. There are state-based and regional groups that gather by Zoom and participate in protests, public hearings, voter registration and community events together, as well as special Working Groups. Its GrayPAC helps elect the people and enact the policies supporting its vision for a working climate and a working democracy.
Truthout Center for Grassroots Journalism
Truthout Center for Grassroots Journalism is an initiative dedicated to build help build the critical media ecosystem necessary to build grassroots power. It assists other social justice-driven media organizations, including emerging publications, in building their power and developing structures to sustain themselves for the long haul. It offers advice, mentorship and support to grassroots and emerging media organizations who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford such assistance. It fosters collaborations among social justice-driven news organizations and co-founded a collaboration among 11 movement media organizations to uplift accurate coverage of Israel’s genocide against Gaza. Houses the Keeley Schenwar Memorial Essay Prize for work authored by people who are currently or formerly incarcerated, part of its work to broaden social justice journalism in ways that highlight the work of incarcerated authors.
