EXECUTIVE REPORTS

INFORMATION

1.

President’s Report

Sandra

First year box and field together.

We’ve always been one as per operating policy

One Executive ensures better development programs,

and strengthens the association. We have a group of committed

volunteers.

Special thank you to Heidi for the Dennis Hickey Tournament,

Serina for Midget  Provincials, Gina and Wendy for the

Thunderstrike Tournament.

In conjunction with Wendy we must also thank

Alex, Jody, Jason, Cindy and Dave

It was a good start to the season

Each year the BCLA AGM is in October. Here  we award outstanding

volunteers. This year Alex and I awarded Wendy for all she does and

Gerald for his efforts with Female Field.

In the past we awarded annual awards at our AGM.

This year we are expanding the awards and will have a separate night.

It will be more of an event.

This year saw more challenges with the abuse of

officials/coaches/players. We remain steadfast in our position of zero

tolerance and continue to enforce the Code of Conduct

There will be a development program in January for box.

Ongoing Dialogue with township for floor time.

Thank you to the following people who are stepping down:

 Mya (equip mgr)

David - goalie equipment

Cindy - coach admin

Darren - VP

Thank you Scott and Kasey for the development program

VP Field Report

Alex

Since amalgamation - my report is  from last year

August - rust offs went well

Tryouts in September  went well

Numbers last couple of years stayed the same in field - hope to grow

with the extra time/dedication of coaches

Both box and field - results have improved due

to commitment from coaches/volunteers/exec

We are top 3-4 overall in most divisions (as a whole)

Provincials didn’t happen last year due to weather

Unfortunate for U18 kids

We have a a great relationship with TOL  - some challenges with GP

- working with the township to resolve

Thank everyone for continued support and dedication

8.

Director Coaches

and Officials

Jason

Fantastic to see more people out

Positive things happening in the association

Thank you to those that attended tonight

Performance metrics - not focussed on purely winning - developing

athletes

First year we looked at 12/13, 14/15 - we were 5th or 6th in terms of size

we were consistently 13th or 14th out of 17

2016 we went to 9th

2017 to 7th

18/19 third overall (many criteria)

If you look at stats - compare similar size organizations

We’ve been most consistent in last 5 years in improving and staying there

Half of our teams finishing in top 3

Feedback through coach surveys and parent surveys- we want to get

more feedback from the membership

Important to work on doing a better job for players

Cindy has done a tremendous amount of work - thank you

We are all here for the players

08/09 big flush into the association

We need to get more kids into the sport

Larger player pool - more development opportunities

Encourage people to sign up

Player development programs - noticeable to see the player improvement

Goalie development showing great results

Getting pressure from pay to play

in other jurisdictions pay to play are killing associations

something for us to think about - how do we continue to offer

performance and development  opportunities so they don’t leave

The biggest threat we have is allocation of facilities

Players quit minor to play - pay to play

if you see gaps in what we offer vs travel teams etc communicate that

back to us

Parent feedback - we are trying to improve player evaluations -

still concerns around that. Field doesn’t have same tension as box

For box 2020 we continue to improve evaluations/selections

Coaches - not a lot of support for coaches - get certifications and on our

own after that

Non parent coaches - let them know they are appreciated

Number of former players coming back and want to help

Langley has a positive reputation -

Coach committee program died on the vine

Coaches concerns were not being listened to

We need to get some folks in the younger divisions to help with

coaching

Box coach applications live December 1st

Ref - better job supporting and developing refs

We are working to identify concerns of refs

The spectator abuse is one of the biggest issues we have

as an association we have to make changes

A few things we are going to do:

exhibition/evals - have refs come out and participate with mentors

look at scenarios - put refs into difficult situations and help them

work through it

Field this year - refs are doing quadruple duty to get games played

We have no game to play if no officials

Spectators need to say zero

Testing - option to provide feedback

More fun format tournaments

Stick or treat

Try a field jamboree in December

Looking for membership feedback

Maybe 4 a year for jamborees

End of field 3 on 3 in the box

open up to other associations - intermixing players within skill group

Discipline Committee- we need to form

Volume - to bring consistency to situations

9.

Director Lacrosse

Development

Development going well - winning percentage increase with fall

development and rust offs. Winning was 45% up to 58% -

One part of our improvement is goalie development

with coaches we have - we will keep going forward

Fall development - 118 players

11 goalies

Fall is winding down

Pre season devel starting in Jan

Smaller numbers in each group

Looking at in season development

Send development coaches out to each team (if desired)

Many Sr.  thunder came and want to help with development and coaching

Next step is to start developing coaches

courses - strategies

Finding as kids get older we increase numbers

10.

Director

Administration

Wendy

Two primary areas - info/tech/facilities allocation

IT

Switched to team snap, pretty straightforward (thank you Kristy)

Taken advantage to move registration for development programs

into team snap, payments

online so we can track payments better

Take the data for reporting purposes

Increasing communication through website

Ref reports and game sheets - exec can review for penalty mins,

Manager can bring to attention of exec

Allows for trend watching and proactive

Past year we applied for tech soup canada (discounts/comp software)

through that we use G suite

All Executive required to use G suite email

Consistency/transparency - help with training

Transferring financials into cloud package - transparency

Facilities

Always a challenge, little control

Pushed back on TOL re GP

continue to fight for access

Proud to see support of the families when at TOL council meeting

Provided practice and game for all teams

Used aldergrove arena

Engaged in longer term planning with facilities - booking up to a year

in advance (allows for future planning);

expanding use of facilities - including gyms

Jan 1 - Aug 1 - total floor 1776 of that 467 pre season hours (dev/eval/scrimmages/practices.

continue trying to secure more time

11.

Business Arising From Executive Reports

Coach feedback question from the  floor - what happens with it?

Answer: President and other Executive review before coach head looks at it - scrub

to anonymize if appropriate

conversations happen with coaches to provide feedback

coaches do not see the written feedback currently - will change in

coming season

*Suggestion that survey feedback is done in between box and field

(positive or negative)

Question re evaluations - more coaches evaluating/criteria established

multiple eyes looking, with coaches kids we have a least one non

division coach review

Timing of box team selection and cascading

Date box starts is April 13th

Midget starting April 6th - Provincials July 2nd because of Summer Games

Shauna - 700 followers on Instragram

Increase our partnership with Sr thunder

if you have anything to post send it to Shauna

Considering a feature player idea

Election of Directors

Up for election are President,  Vice President Box and Director of Player Development

No nominations from the floor

Kasey put his name forward for VP Box

Secretary cast ballot for Sandra, Kasey and Scott

Elections complete

New Business

Last night AGM - proposal -  playing rules for novice boys - off ball contact (get report)  passed-

off ball place and push

last year end of box we were moving names in favour of “u” , now changed - keeping names (peewee, bantam

etc)
