1. What is WISD GRIT?

WISD is offering admission to GRIT through a partnership with Weatherford College. GRIT is an innovative, open-enrollment high school that allows students to earn Dual Technical Credit from a Level 1 certificate to the completion of an Associate of Applied Science Degree at no charge.

2. What is dual credit?

Dual credit programs allow high school students to enroll in college courses for credit while still in high school. College credits earned through dual credit can be applied toward high school and college graduation and can be transferred to other colleges or universities.

A dual credit program benefits students in a number of ways:

• Provides a head start on postsecondary core requirements.
• Expands the variety of classes available to high school students.
• Provides greater opportunities for a coordinated, seamless education.
• Serves as a “controlled” introduction to college life.
• Allows for an easier transition to college.
• Builds students’ confidence and self-esteem.

5. Who can attend Weatherford ISD’s GRIT high school?

 GRIT high school is designed to serve 9th grade students who have the determination to attend college and earn an industry certification. Interested eighth grade students, who will be freshmen next year, can apply for the upcoming Fall 2024 school year.

7. Where will students attend classes?

Students will attend classes at both the NGC and WHS depending on their Pathway.

8. Will students be able to participate in student activities and athletics?

Yes!

9. Will I have to pay tuition for college classes?

No. Tuition is waived for students enrolled and textbooks will be provided to all students free of charge.

10. Will I have to pay tuition for college textbooks?

No. College textbooks will be provided to all students free of charge.

11. What are the benefits of attending GRIT?

GRIT will enable students to:

• Eliminate thousands of dollars in college tuition costs.
• Graduate from a four-year university in less time than their peers.

• Enter the job market with a work-ready skill.
• Develop workplace skills through mentorships and internships with industry                 partners.
• Earn an Associate of Applied Science degree - tuition free while in high school.

12. When will students start taking college level classes?

Students will begin taking college classes during their 9th grade year, depending on Pathway.

13. Will there be assistance and support for college courses?

One of the goals of GRIT is to ensure the success of every student. Therefore, students will receive tutoring and instructional support to help them at every level. Students should take an active role in asking for help and notifying the GRIT staff of any issues or challenges they may have along their journey.

14. What if my child receives special education services?

It is the policy of Weatherford ISD to afford equal opportunity education to all students. Students receiving special education services are given the same consideration in the selection as all other students. The individual needs of the student, as indicated in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP), can be addressed during any audition or performance assessment. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to provide the IEP or 504 Plan with the application. Students enrolled in dual credit courses at Weatherford College can request accommodations by providing documentation of disability and be found eligible through the college’s Disability Support Services Office (DSO).
