ExamWritePad is the UK’s very first (Windows PC-based) word processor built and designed specifically for use with controlled assessments/exams. Written with guidelines set out by many UK exam boards, makes it unique and provides an answer to many a dilemma of which software to use.

Besides what you would expect from any writing application, the main features are its ability to auto-save at timed intervals and create backups in case of power failures at timed intervals. Allow insertion into the header of all the candidate information required, not forgetting the date. You can zoom into your document if you struggle to read it. You can also add a coloured screen filter to something more suitable for people suffering from conditions like Irlen‘s Syndrome. The application can run in many screen modes like normal window or full-screen, so users cannot deviate from the task. There is an extensive list of configurable options, over 250+ to allow you to customise ExamWritePad to your requirements.

You can also print off the cover sheets from WJEC and Cambridge with most fields pre-filled ready. A countdown timer for those with extra time (to be used in preparation and practise for the final exams), a basic spell checker, and many more…

Each auto backup file is retained in case of emergencies or to help with identifying any patterns of a user's progression or work flow. Within the Previous History feature, you can recover the last 1 hour of backups from the drop down. Anything earlier than that will have to be recovered manually by the IT team.

Additional features include a CD Player, MP3 Player, document page colouring, easy access to foreign language accents and symbols, and many more…

ExamWritePad uses “progressive disclosure” within its tabbed ribbon bar, a technique used to reduce cognitive load by gradually revealing more complex information or features as the user progresses through a user interface, less is more for its users.

Converting to paid use after a trial:

ExamWritePad’s paid and trial versions are exactly the same software, running from the same installation, so if you decide to purchase after concluding your trial then you do need to reinstall or otherwise re-setup the software.
The only necessary step is to apply the license file you receive on purchase to your existing installation used for the trial.
This is done by deploying the file to the installation directory of the software.

No other changes to your trial installation need to be made.

Any configurations you made to ExamWritePad during the trial will remain as they were.

Bundled with ExamWritePad is a ConfigEditorGUI application for those who wish not to edit the ExamWritePadSettings.json configuration file manually through a text file editor. It is strongly suggested to always use the ConfigEditorGUI instead of a text file editor, to stop any issues or undesired results when using ExamWritePad. All the configuration options and their descriptions are located within the ConfigEditorGUI app, as shown below.

The general information that is required when asking for support/help 

If you are experiencing an error on launch or during the use of EWP, please provide further detail by doing the following:

• Launch “Event Viewer” (Search for it or press the Windows key and start typing Event Viewer).
• Expand “Windows Logs”
• Click on “Application”
• On the right-hand side click on “Filter Current Log…”
• In the box “<All Event IDs>” type in: 17181 and click on OK
• On the right-hand side click on “Save Filtered Log File As…”
• Type a ‘filename’ of your choice and then select the save as type as “CSV (Comma-separated)”.
• Click Save, then you can now email the file to support@examwritepad.com along with the issue you are experiencing in detail.
