INSTRUMENTS/REQUIRED MATERIALS
Required Materials for each instrument are available HERE. A hard copy of this information was also handed out to students. Having the right supplies helps students to be immediately successful in class. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Students will use a band book that will be individually checked out to them for the year, and have access to this material through their Smart Music subscription at home.
CONCERT DATES INFORMATION
Students received a green paper with all of their concert information for the year. Please be sure to look over these dates, particularly the concert dates on the list that are required part of the band class grade. There are also many optional events throughout the year that many of our band students choose to participate in as well. Mason Middle School’s 7th and 8th grade band students perform in the Mason Middle School Band green polo shirt. Please order using the link above by MONDAY, October 6. Email Ms. Icaza if you have any questions or need support.
The Green Band polos are worn with black colored long pants (not provided) and will be sold for $20.00 (order online above). These come in ADULT SIZES only. During the band periods, the students can see samples and select their size. Polo sizes tend to run big.
Already have a band polo? Students are welcome to wear siblings'/neighbors' Mason Band Polos but need to complete the form so we know your polo plan. Check to make sure as we are not able to order extra shirts at a later date.

SMARTMUSIC
Students renewed their Smartmusic subscriptions last week. If you have any issues logging in, please reach out to Mr. Green. Brass and woodwind students have received their first assignment.
PRIVATE LESSONS
In class this week, we will be talking with students about Private Lessons opportunities. Private Lessons are THE BEST WAY for your student to have a personalized learning experience on their instrument! Over 50% of MMS Eighth Grade Band students choose to take lessons and over 75% of our high school band students choose to take private lessons. We will be talking more about private lessons in class next week, but can get more information on the Mason Band website HERE.
PERCUSSION AFTER-SCHOOL SECTIONALS
After school sectionals for all 7th grade percussion students continue this week! Sectionals are immediately after school from 2:45-3:30p in the MMS Band Room on Tuesday and Wednesday. Students need only attend ONE day - it will be the same lesson both days. You can view the full list of dates HERE.

Raffle Period - Raffle runs NOW until November 7th at 5pm OR until 4,000 tickets are sold...whichever comes first!
Drawing - Saturday, November 8th, 2025 at the MSBA AAAAA Championships, hosted at Mason. Need not be present to win!

Dine and Donate!
Our next Dine & Donate event will be at Mad Monks Pizza Company, located at 753 Reading Road tomorrow on September 29th from 6pm-9pm. This Dine and Donate event is during the Monday Night Football game for the Bengals. The band will get a portion of all pizza sales that evening. No flyer is necessary, just mention you are supporting the Mason band when ordering.

INSTRUMENT SWITCHES
Over the next few weeks, we will be talking to woodwind students about the possibility of potentially switching instruments to fill out our band sound. This includes the possibility of oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, tenor saxophone and baritone saxophone. This Thursday, students will have the opportunity to try out bassoon.

8th GRADE NIGHT
Our annual 8th grade band night is on Friday, October 10th. 8th grade students have the opportunity to perform with the nationally recognized William Mason High School Marching Band at the home football game! Students received information in class on Thursday of last week. All 8th grade band students are required to attend.

MMS Symphonic Winds

Mason Middle School’s Symphonic Winds band students perform in the concert black dress that they will use through high school. Please order using the link above by MONDAY, October 6. Email Ms. Icaza if you have any questions or need support.
Students have already been measured, so families will simply need to select which of the three uniform options they would like and submit payment through the form. The directors will then place one order from the company for all uniform parts.
AFTER SCHOOL REHEARSAL DATES
One of the requirements for Symphonic Winds is participation in our after school rehearsals once a month (and weekly in February). You can find the dates for these rehearsals HERE. Please plan ahead to avoid absences. Our first rehearsal was last week and the students did an outstanding job! Our next after-school is on October 15th.
