501(3)(c) Status

The PTSO has obtained 501(c)(3) status and is officially a non-profit organization.

Financial Update

PTSO has $3282.08 in the bank as of 1/6/24. (Collected through membership dues and last year’s yearbook sales).

We’ll have some upcoming expenditures (listed below), and we’ll need to start some fundraising efforts and perhaps form a fundraising committee? Anyone interested in helping with this?

Insurance / Membership Toolkit

In February, we’ll renew our subscription to our website, Membership Toolkit ($850) and apply for insurance through PTO Today ( $535-$689) . The cost of those 2 things will be approximately $1,600.

ACQUIRE INSURANCE AND RENEW MEMBERSHIP TOOLKIT BEFORE 1/30/24

Remaining balance: Approx $1,650, depending on insurance costs

Spirit Wear

Anniversary T-Shirt for Every Student

At the last meeting, we talked about getting a t-shirt for all students for the 30th year of MMS which they could wear for the aerial photo on the front lawn this spring. When is that photo scheduled to take place?
Dr. Swoger suggested we use the NASH students to make the t-shirts. Who is the contact person at NASH?
We need to:

Determine the total number of students (and staff ?), cost and delivery date.
Vote by the PTSO to approve funding of the shirts
Create google doc for families to complete with their students info and t-shirt size (to be sent by Dr. Swoger)
Solicit local businesses / sponsors for the back of the t-shirt to help defray the cost? Suggestions of who to reach out to? Anyone want to help with this?

WHAT WE HAVE FOUND:

$5.80/shirt + misc cost = $6.00/shirt
Total estimated cost $6,000.00 for every student and staff
Shirts would be distributed to each student on day of picture taking…early MAY

Need donors: (create a donation/sponsorship letter)!!!

Need to create Google Doc for Students to Fill out - NAME>GRADE>HR>SIZE

Need to add blurb to Friday Newsletter letting parents know about the upcoming 30th year school celebration and the shirts that will be donated by PTSO to each student. Ask if any parent or his/her business would like to be a sponsor.
Use any extra funds from donations to make the celebration a little bit more special with food or other festive things.

Through Evil Lizard or similar company with multiple MMS and NA logos and apparel options

Fundraising

Expenses include staff appreciation, shirts for every student, other misc items we are asked to help with throughout the year. (ie good luck sign for Mr. B). Expenses will increase as we continue to grow and expand.

In addition to Spirit Wear sales, any other fundraising we can do this spring?

Form a fundraising committee at this point? Volunteers?

PBIS

Beth Ann Smith has volunteered to help with this committee. Dr. Swoger has provided us with a form to send to local businesses. Anyone else willing to help? Anyone can take letters and hand them out to businesses.

Feedback from kids to see what would appeal to them… we need to make the kids WANT to receive the tickets
Do teachers need incentives to hand the tickets out?

After School Programs

We began to discuss this with Heather at the last meeting. We will set up a time to meet and hopefully move forward.

Meeting 1/24/2024 to discuss ideas at Station NO 5 - 9:00am

Can we look at testing the interest with a few classes in the Spring?
What teachers would have interest?
How would they be compensated?
How much would be charged?
Anyone interested in helping with this?

PTSO member donations helped make it a big success - thank you!

Good Luck Sign for Mr. B

The PTSO sponsored a “Good Luck” sign which was placed on the front lawn for Mr. Buchak on his last day before he moved on to NASH.

MMS Feedback Encouraged

No phone Fridays - we are thinking about encouraging students (it would be on a volunteer basis) to put their phones in a bin in homeroom. The teacher would then safely store the bin until the end of the day. Thoughts….
