Drop Off and Pick Up Information

The drop off at the start of the day pick up at the end of the day continues to run very smoothly. Thanks for your patience and consideration. We will continue with our pick up process, starting at 3:20pm, and will send out an updated message if we plan to adjust the start time for the pick up process.

EDP Update

The Extended Day program began last week for a limited number of students who were returning to the program. As mentioned last week, all new registrants have been put on a waitlist and more students will hopefully be added to the program in the coming weeks. If you have any further questions, please email: early.learning@ocsb.ca and they will respond to you as quickly as possible.

OPH Flowchart and Next Steps

Our OCSB schools continue to follow guidance from Ottawa Public Health and the School Board regarding students who exhibit Covid-19 symptoms while at school. Symptoms that could indicate COVID-19 infection include, but are not limited to, feeling feverish, new or worsening cough, difficulty breathing, sore throat, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, runny nose, or nasal congestion.

It is very important that students are not sent to school if they exhibit any of the above symptoms. If a student exhibits any of the above symptoms at school, we must follow Ottawa Public Health protocols;  your child exhibiting symptoms and your other children who attend the school will need to be picked up. Please see the flowchart below for more information.

Ottawa Public Health Flowchart

Here are a few key points from the flow chart:

A student with Covid 19 symptoms must be picked up from school. All family members must be picked up as well.

All family contacts must stay home for 14 days unless the individual with symptoms gets tested. Note: not all family members need to get tested. Only the individual with symptoms needs to get a test.

A student who tests negative can return to school after being symptom-free for 24 hours.

A student can return to school if they have an alternative diagnosis provided by a doctor (seasonal allergies, etc.).

Please also see the Ottawa Public Health screening tool below. The purpose of this screening tool is to help parents and guardians make decisions about whether their child can attend school/child care. This screening tool should be completed daily before attending school/child care for each individual child separately.

OPH Screening Tool for students

We are experiencing very challenging times, and I realize the impact this protocol is going to have on our community. However, these measures are strict guidelines put in place by Ottawa Public Health in order to keep everyone safe and healthy. We are so thankful that the members of our community have done such a great job following this protocol.

Return of Chromebooks to the School

Thanks to everyone who has returned the chromebooks they borrowed from the school during distance learning last school year. If your family still has a school chromebook at home, please return it as soon as possible. You can email the school and Mr. Skinner will make sure he is available to receive the device. If you are studying online with the virtual academy, you may keep the chromebook until your child returns to the school for their studies.

St. Michael Corkery Spirit Day

On Friday, September 25th we will have another spirit day. All students and staff are encouraged to wear their St. Michael Corkery spirit wear, or to represent the school by wearing green. No donation is required.

Lost Items

This year, we are trying to avoid using the lost and found as we want to keep items limited to the student’s cohort. If any students find unclaimed items, we are instructing them to put the items on the school wall, within the designated area for the cohort of students. If a student is missing an item, we ask them to check the wall, or by their cohort sign and it would be helpful if you told your children to do the same, if they are missing any items. Thanks and have a great day.
