Gradescope information

Getting started

  1. Activate Gradescope by following the Gradescope link from our D2L site.
  2. If you use a smart phone (or a similar device like an iPad or other tablet computers), or have access to one, install a scanning app.  One possibility is Adobe Scan; another is Evernote Scannable.
  3. If you prefer, you may also use a scanner in, e.g., a campus computer lab.
  4. If you use a tablet or a computer program that can edit PDFs directly, you can also use that (but see below).

Download assignment

You can download the assignment from the course web page, or from the link within D2L.

Work on assignment

There are a few possibilities:

  1. Print out the assignment, work on it by hand, then scan it (see above).
  2. If you have a tablet or a program that can write to PDF directly, you can use that.

Whatever you do, please do not alter or rescale the homework document.  The format helps Gradescope line up problems and improves efficiency and accuracy of grading.  Also, write clearly and legibly using dark pen / pencil.

Notes on scanning

  1. Please make sure the lighting is good, and everything is legible.
  2. Please save as black and white.  This makes files easier to process.
  3. Make sure pages are aligned and ordered correctly.
  4. Consolidate all pages into a single PDF file.  Avoid adding extra pages if possible.

For tablet (e.g., iPad) users

You can edit the PDF directly and upload that.

Uploading

  1. Access your class page on Gradescope.
  2. Find the submission folder for the correct assignment.  (If I forgot to set one up, please email me.)
  3. Upload your file.

Viewing graded work

When graded work is published, access the assignment on Gradescope.
