Dreams # 1  -   Foundational Principals

The Bible is very clear one of the ways God speaks to His people is through dreams.  Often times men / women would pray and God would answer them in a dream.

                 i.e.  Jacob…..Gen 28    (ladder to heaven)

                          i.e.  Solomon..... II Chron 1: 6,7    (wisdom)

i.e.  Joseph.... Matthew 1: 19,20   (Mary as your wife)

I personally have found it to be an invaluable source of guidance.

Job 33:14 - 17

(14)   Indeed God speaks once, or twice, yet no one notices it.

We don’t pay attention to His voice or His dreams

(15)   In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon                       men, while slumbering on their beds,

Dream - Occurs when you are sleeping

Vision - Occurs when you are awake

When we are sleeping.....the Lord can speak to us easier.....we                                    don’t have as much a tendency to argue with Him.

(16)   then He (God) opens the ears of men, and seals their                                 instructions.

In a dream......God gives us instructions

                 - But the instructions are sealed..... (like in an envelope)

The dreams the Lord gives me are spoken to me from the Spirit realm…….I cannot come to grasp or understand the things of the Spirit (dreams) with my natural reasoning and un-renewed mind.

I Cor 2: 14  The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that                   come from God, for they are foolishness to him,and he                           cannot understand them, because they are spiritually                          discerned.

….Our Minds needs to be Renewed….

Romans 12: 2

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

The same Spirit of God who wrote the scriptures is the same Spirit of God who speaks to us in dreams.  Therefore I need to learn “His language” in order to understand what He is saying to me.  When Interpreting dreams:

Learn to think spiritually    i.e. symbolically

Jesus used natural things to speak of spiritual matters:

Mark 4 ……Parable of the Sower

                                      Seed = Word of God

Thorns = Cares of the World

Mark 8: 15 -18   (Jesus is speaking)

And He was giving orders to them, saying, "Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod."  They began to discuss with one another the fact that they had no bread.  And Jesus, aware of this, said to them, "Why do you discuss the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet see or understand? Do you have a hardened heart? 18 "HAVING EYES, DO YOU NOT SEE? AND HAVING EARS, DO YOU NOT HEAR?…….

The Disciples were thinking “naturally”......”we have brought no bread”..

Judges 7: 13,14  (Lord told Gideon to go to Midian camp for confirmation)

When Gideon came, behold, a man was relating a dream to his friend. And he said, "Behold, I had a dream; a loaf of barley bread was tumbling into the camp of Midian, and it came to the tent and struck it so that it fell, and turned it upside down so that the tent lay flat."                        His friend replied, "This is nothing less than the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel; God has given Midian and all the camp into his hand.”

I.e  Barley was only thing Israelites were allowed to grow…not wheat

Question I often hear:    “Why doesn’t he just tell me what to do ?”

Answer:   The Lord is much more concerned with your heart and your                         relationship to Him……than what you “do” for him.

Pro 25: 2  It is the Glory of God to conceal a matter, and it is the glory                 of Kings to search a matter out.  (Proverbs 2:4)

The Lord uses dreams to draw us to Himself.  A dream causes me to ponder on God all day.  As we “search things out” through the scriptures we come to know Him. (John 17: 3)   And as we come to know Him we become persuaded (Rom 4: 21) of His love, His wisdom, His understanding, His sovereignty, and protection over our lives.

(17)  That He may turn man aside from his conduct

Matt 2:12  (The Magi) And having been warned by God in a                                  dream not to return to Herod……..

 (17)   And keep man from his pride- Daniel 4  Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream

i.e. Traveling a road that is muddy

6.   Pray for Dreams

        1.  I go to bed I ask specifically for a dream concerning an issue I

am concerned with  James 1: 5

        2.  Expect a dream or dreams every night......faith draws it out.

                 Heb 11: 6

  1.  Write your dreams down Hab 2: 2
  1.  Wake up slowly......lie there and reflect.  Did God give me one ?
  2.  If so, lie in bed repeating your dream over and over in your head.
  1.  Then when you have a pretty good grasp of it....get up and

               write it down.

  1.  Don’t try and interpret it before you write it down.

.......Your first thought upon waking often is, “That dream                           doesn’t mean anything..... I don’t need to write it down.”  .....

NO !!!   Write it down !!!

  1.  Write down:

                .......the Date and location

                  ....... don’t “edit it”......(because you don’t like it)

.......the feelings you experience in the dream

.......what is going on in your life at that time (your main concern)
