Folsom Update August 17, 2023
Hello Folsom families,
We’re now less than 2 weeks from students returning to school on August 30th (except for kindergarten!). I have a couple of reminders and updates for you:
- Bus routes - see below. As previously shared with you, Mountain Transit has made some changes to bus routes due to a variety of challenges that have increased in recent years. These include: buses needing to turn around multiple times in tight spaces which sometimes are not plowed adequately; buses going into private communities that may or not be plowed or sanded early in the morning in the winter; complaints about the buses turning around in private driveways; and also the amount of traffic on Rt 2 and concerns about dropping children off on the opposite side of the road from their homes. I appreciate that MT raised the issues and we have tried to work with them collaboratively to make it possible for students to have reasonable access to bus transportation (this does not always mean door to door service). Please email or call me to discuss any questions you may have about your child’s bus stop (it is also possible we’ve missed a kid or made a mistake!). Also note that our long time bus drivers have switched routes. Mike will now have the “west” route and Alycia the “east.” Alycia will still do the late bus when it starts up again come October.
Please keep in mind that times will be adjusted over the first couple of weeks of school
as not all children ride the bus and the times provided are a best guess. If you know for
certain that your child will never ride the bus, please let Sue McNayr know and we will take that stop off the list.
- REGISTRATION PACKET: If you have not received a registration packet, call Sue McNayr at 372-6600. They were sent out the first week of August. Please remember that all of the forms in the packet should be returned by the first day of school AT THE LATEST. You can also drop them off at school anytime prior.
- MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCCER - teams are filling up! If you haven’t yet registered your child, go to www.gofolsom.org, click on Menu and then the Athletics icon. A mandatory parent meeting is at 6 pm on August 30th and practices begin the next day. No student may start practice without a completed sports physical. See info on the registration site.
Courtesy posting from South Hero Rec:
As you may have heard, in addition to the competition soccer teams playing in Essex this fall, Grand Isle Rec and South Hero Rec will be recombining the fall soccer clinic.
Head coach Tristan Hobbs will host Pre-K thru 4th Graders at Folsom School in South Hero on Saturday mornings for 6 weeks starting on September 9th and ending on October 14th. This is open to all Island Residents and is offered for free!
A second weeknight of play for the 3rd and 4th graders is in the works and will most likely be held at Grand Isle School from 6-7:15 on Wednesday nights (this may change based on the school soccer schedule).
The Saturday Schedule at Folsom School is:
Pre-K and Kindergarten - 8:30AM to 9:15AM
1st and 2nd Graders - 9:30AM to 10:30AM
3rd and 4th Graders - 10:45AM to Noon
Please bring a soccer ball, shin guards, cleats, and water. We will have an exchange crate so feel free to grab from that or donate. Register online to guarantee the correct shirt size or by paper at the first clinic on Saturday September 9th (no guarantee of shirt size).
