Individual Therapist
(Full Time, 35 hours a week)
At Heartland Farm Sanctuary, our mission is to inspire compassion for animals, the earth, and each other. We fulfill this mission through three core programs: farm animal rescue and care, humane education, and therapy. Our programs are designed to not only function independently but also intertwine and enhance each other, creating a sanctuary where respect and compassion flow in every direction.
How You Will Make a Difference:
As an Individual Therapist at Heartland you will play an integral role by creating and facilitating exceptional experiences for youth and our animal residents, and sharing our mission of inspiring compassion for all beings. Therapeutic experiences at Heartland are focused on skill development, enhancement and psychoeducation for youth and young people. These experiences are facilitated through one on one sessions in partnership with our animal residents at Heartland and our beautiful property. As an Individual Therapist, you will facilitate these sessions, and ensure that Heartland Farm Sanctuary is a safe and welcoming space for program participants.
Individual Therapists are responsible for:
● Maintaining a caseload of therapy participants (16 sessions a week)
● Providing skill development, skill enhancement, and psychoeducation services to youth ages 2-18, and some young adults up to age 21
● Creating treatment plans, keeping timely session notes, and maintaining accurate documentation for each participant
● Using appropriate evidenced based techniques formulated and tailored to the participant’s specified needs
● Communicating and collaborating cross-departmentally with other teams at Heartland, including Animal Care and Humane Education.
● Coordinating care and collaborating on treatment goals with families, caregivers, and agency case managers
● Staying up to date with state laws and compliance
● Maintaining continuing education and licensing requirements
● Consulting with the therapy team and attending weekly program meetings Who We Are Looking For:
Desirable Skills and Qualifications for an Individual Therapist are:
● A commitment to the mission, values, and strategic priorities of Heartland Farm Sanctuary, ensuring that all actions and decisions align with the organization's overarching goals.
● WI License or Credential in Social Work, Recreational Therapy, or Professional Counseling is required.
● The ability to work independently while supporting a larger team effort.
● Sound judgment, discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.
● Flexibility and willingness to grow with Heartland.
● Experience working with youth and families is a plus; a willingness to learn about Heartland’s commitments when it comes to the care and treatment of our program participants, and to uphold those, is required.
● Experience working with animals is a plus; a willingness to learn about Heartland’s commitments when it comes to the care and treatment of our resident animals, and to uphold those, is required.
● Reliable transportation to the sanctuary in Stoughton, WI

Schedule: Monday - Friday, some weekends, and evenings as needed

Location: Heartland Farm Sanctuary, Stoughton (with some ability to work remotely) Compensation: $24-$28/hour
