HOW IS MY SOCIAL MEDIA PAGE GOING?

This list is not exhaustive, nor is it meant to be a checklist of essential items.

However it’s a guide to the thinking and some of the expectations your teachers would have when marking this final piece of your cross media promotional package.

EXAMPLES

(BULLET POINTS)

Design coherence (Essential):

Does your social media page include the same (generic)  images, color scheme, fonts, graphics that appeared in your digipak design and to a lesser extent your music video.

YES

  • Our social media page includes similar colours to our digipak. We used bright colours to draw attention to the audience with deep reds, blues and purples. We have also incorporated handwritten fonts from our digipak into our social media page to follow the same themes. This portrays an elegant feel and also shows personal identity as if our star has personalised it.
  • Our music video follows some themes e.g. the light blues and hair down. Which creates a sense of freedom but also a contemporary feel. Our star wears her hair down in most posts, digipack as well as music video, so we have represented the same image across all three products well.
Content:

Is there additional (teaser) content such as gifs, images, audio…?

YES

  • We have created a teaser for our music video which is posted as well as featured on our highlight stories. This ensures the fans don't miss out on the release date, or the content.
  • By keeping the audience and fans engaged, many of our posts include enticing text e.g. keep your eyes peeled, keep on the lookout etc. This hopefully makes the fans want to follow the journey.
Synergy:

Have you created links with other brands or products that would appeal to your audience?

MAYBE

  • We have linked in with ‘pretty little thing’ clothing line which may appeal to our demographic audience of around 16-25 year olds. The clothing line is quite feminine. You can purchase causal yet extraordinary products from there and we felt like this suited our target audience well.
Timeline:

Is there a sense of building excitement leading towards the release date of your album?

MAYBE

  • We have published our album release and informed our fans on the highlight stories, however we could have done more of a lead up with more suspense to keep the audience guessing. This could have been done with more behind the scenes and more sneak peaks.
  • Me and my partner have created a sense of excitement for our audience as we have included teasers for our music video and album release, and behind the scenes content. This enables the fans to follow along and feel part of the journey
Cross Media Convergence:

Is there a sense that your star is creating converged links with other media or stars (Radio / TV interviews, computer game / film soundtracks, adverts, collaboration  with other musicians…)?

YES

  • Our star has ordinary posts of her explaining daily life and what she is doing. She also has links to the ‘young minds’ charity and supports them however we haven't created any posts of her on the radio in further depth.
  • On our social media page we also have not used cross media convergence to collaborate with other artists like her.
Promotion of live events:

An album release would almost certainly combine with a tour or series of streamed (paid for) gigs / shows. Remember this is where many artists make most of their revenue.

YES

  • On our Instagram page our star has made a post and a highlight story to inform the fans when her album will be released. We used bright colours to draw attention to the important content.
  • In addition, tour dates were released further up the page which could imply call to action for the fans to purchase the tickets.
A Call to Action:

There should be a clear link to point of sale (iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Tidal, You Tube…) for the music as well as a link for the audience to buy merchandise or concert tickets.

YES

  • Our star has a link to her website in her bio on Instagram which displays all the information about upcoming events, merch releases, tour dates etc. Our star has also posted her music video on youtube which fans can listen to.
Ordinary / Extraordinary:

Is there an insight into the ‘real’ life of the star and an opportunity to see them as an authentic person?

YES

  • The post of our star on a night out with her friends suggests she has her own personal life and can ‘let her hair down’ and relax. This portrays her as a lively, outgoing person, yet signifies her freedom and what she wants to do in her spare time.
  • She can be portrayed extraordinary in the post of her collab, this may be because she is dressed up and showing off a powerful look. The collab with ’pretty little thing’ also raises brand awareness and could attract more fans. By portraying our star as extraordinary with a clothing line, it suggests not many people get an opportunity to do this as it is not an everyday thing.
Interaction / Engagement:

The audience are looking for interaction with the star: Live chats, invitations to comment / engage.

YES

  • We have incorporated a Q & A on our Instagram highlight stories to allow fans to ask questions that they want to know. This means that the star becomes closer with the fans and the audience will feel connected. This may be to give the opportunity for fans to ask questions about her personal and work life.
Sell Physical copies:

The artist makes very little money from streamed listens. They would prefer you bought the album or vinyl. Are there promotions of physical versions of the music?

NO

  • We are not selling many physical copies as pop fans would prefer to listen online, on the go etc instead of vinyls, however we will have limited physical copies for people who would like them. More updates would appear on our website.
Political Issues &/or Charities:

Links to current political issues or charities close to the star’s heart is a useful way of developing a compassionate and engaged star image which also helps reinforce their fans’ personal identities.

YES

  • We collabed with ‘Young Minds’ to help youths with mental health. Our star supports the charity and wishes to continue to help them in the future. This portrays her as lighthearted and caring towards others.
