Transportation and Luggage

Campers are encouraged, but not required, to arrive at camp in uniform.

Arriving and departing by car

Arrival on June 26 or July 23 should be between 9:00 am-3:00 pm. Most campers are dropped off in the morning. First session ends on July 21 between 1:00-2:00 pm. Second session and full season campers should be picked up on August 14 between 8:00 am-12:00 pm. Elfins should plan to arrive and depart between 9am - 11am.

Public transportation

We can meet campers at the Greyhound Bus or Amtrak stations in White River Junction, VT or at the Dartmouth Coach Bus station in Lebanon, NH. Please email karen_danforth@alohafoundation.org to work out these arrangements. We are not able to provide transportation for parents.

Chartered bus service: $90 per trip

A chartered bus will be provided on June 26 and August 14. Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis; please submit your travel form within your CampDoc account to reserve a spot. The bus will pick up campers in New York City (please arrive by 8:30 am). A nut-free bag lunch should be sent with your camper. On August 14, the camps will provide food and drinks for the trip home. The bus will arrive in NYC approximately 2:30 pm. If there are delays you will be notified by phone and/or email.

Air travel: one-way fees are $50 for MHT (plus $20 for luggage pickup), $25 for LEB, $175 for BOS

We provide transportation and airport assistance at Manchester Regional Airport (MHT) in Manchester, New Hampshire and Lebanon Airport (LEB) in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Flights should arrive between 10:00 am-3:00 pm and depart between 10:00 am-3:00 pm. Campers on international flights may choose to arrive at, or depart from, Logan Airport (BOS) in Boston, Massachusetts. If your camper will be on a domestic flight and is unable to find a non-stop flight into Manchester airport, please contact Karen Danforth (karen_danforth@alohafoundation.org) for assistance. All flyers - please contact Karen BEFORE booking any flights so we can coordinate travel plans with other campers. We are only able to send a few vans to the airports and need to arrange flight times closely together to provide enough staff at the airports.  If your camper’s van is delayed, you will be notified by phone and/or email.

Sending luggage to camp

Luggage may be sent to the camp address any time after June 15. Please tag luggage with your camper’s name and send to the camp address (not Foundation office). We offer luggage pickup (for an additional fee) for those flying into Manchester Airport. We do not allow luggage on the chartered bus from NYC.

Sending luggage home from camp

We do not allow luggage on the Manchester airport vans or the chartered bus at the end of camp. Carry-on luggage will be allowed only if the item can be held or put under camper’s feet. We do not have the ability to check luggage at Manchester airport, so please be sure to check your airline’s carry-on size rules. We offer UPS shipping through Hanover True Value Hardware. Sign up on our website. Trunks will be automatically boxed. Charges for HTVH shipping are based on weight and size; please call (603) 643-2308 for more information.

Travel envelope

The following items, where applicable, should be placed in an envelope marked with your camper’s name and should arrive at camp with your camper. These items will be stored in a safe at the Foundation office for the summer:

Safe travels

During the summer, campers travel in 8-, or 12-, or 15-passenger vans. All drivers are 21 years of age or older and are trained and tested each summer. Campers must abide by safety rules set by the van driver and/or chaperone(s). For travel on the NYC charter bus, campers must abide by safety rules set by the charter company and camp chaperone(s). In all vehicles, campers must conduct themselves in such a manner as to not impede or distract the driver or to cause excessive wear and tear or damage to the vehicle.
