Dear Gladstone Braves families:

We have been made aware of another nation-wide trend, where students post a threat regarding gun violence in schools on social media. We believe it originated with TikTok, but it has been seen on Instagram and Facebook as well. The viral threat focuses on a shooting at a school on Friday, December 17. The original threat is believed to have started as a way for students to skip or be excused from school and has morphed into something much more disturbing. These posts did not originate from our area but we are reaching out to make sure our families are aware.

Social media is a powerful tool often used to influence others, and not always for the good. It is always important to remain vigilant when it involves these types of threats. We encourage parents and guardians to speak with their children about the importance of remaining vigilant about threats and to speak up if they see or hear something. In addition, please take this opportunity to talk with your student about the appropriate use of social media and the seriousness and resulting consequences of making any kind of threat.

We again want to say thank you to the students, parents and community members who made us aware of the social media posts. We all have a role in keeping our students and community safe.

Thank you for your support.
