Welcome to Our Newest Major: Trevor Smith - Geol.  Please do not hesitate to let us know how we can best support you with your goals. (Geol = Geology major, AEG = Applied Environmental Geosciences major, EST = Earth Science Teaching major)

Applications for Department of Geosciences Scholarships are DUE MONDAY: Applications are now being accepted for the 2015-2016 Department of Geosciences scholarships. The applications are posted on our website, and attached to this email. You may also pick up a hard copy from the department office.

Please note that there are TWO application processes for which you must submit separate application packets. One is for the Norman & Barbara Tanner Scholarship in Geosciences. The other is in consideration for one of the following; Richard & Belva Moyle, Thomas Neff Memorial, Suzi Nicholson Memorial, and Questar Scholarships.

Each application must be accompanied with a printed copy of your CatTracks.  If you need help getting a printed copy of your CatTracks, the department administrative assistant, Marianne Bischoff, can help you with that. Email, call (801-626-7139) or stop by. Applications for departmental scholarships will be accepted until 4:00pm, February 23, 2015.

SGE Taps New Members: The Eta Gamma Chapter of SGE welcomes its newest members: Heather Couturier; Brindalyn Greaves; Matt Johnson; Kelsey Minnoch; Andrew Park; Jeff Perkins; and Ashley Provow. Congratulations!

Sigma Gamma Epsilon Meetings: Calling all SGE members. Monthly meetings will be held the last Friday of every month, at 1:30PM in the Majors Room.  The first one will take place next Friday, Feb. 27. If you have any questions about SGE, please contact Michael Hess.

Student Judges Needed for WSU Science Fair:  There is a great need for judges for the upcoming Ritchey Junior Science & Engineering Fair, Thursday, March 19, Noon to 4 pm, Dee Event Center. No experience necessary. This is a great service opportunity that promotes science literacy in the community and encourages the next generation of scientists and engineers. Utah Geographic Information Council Scholarships: UGIC is offering student scholarships for the 2015 conference at Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort on May 13-15th, 2015. Two scholarships will be awarded that cover conference registration and lodging. Any undergraduate (full or part-time) student is eligible to apply. The application submission deadline is February 27th, 2015.  This is a great opportunity for students to learn from the professional community and begin building their GIS network. Please see the attached flyer for full information.  

Grants for Undergraduate Research:

The Rocky Mountain Section of GSA is currently accepting proposals for undergraduate research grants. Funding requests can be for up to $750 and are due 1 March 2015. Additional information and application materials can be downloaded here.

Send Us Your Photos & Favorite Sites:  Please send us your favorite science-related websites and we will share them with our geoscience community in a future newsletter.  Also, we can always use more pictures to be featured as the photo of the week.  If you are willing to share any pictures of you and/or your classmates in any geosciences related activity, please send them to us!
