We prioritize good sleep hygiene, and hope that you will not have to stay up late to get assignments turned in. Mastermind Peer Coaching Circles For all seven class sessions, you will participate in a Mastermind Peer Coaching Circle (PCC) with three of your classmates. The circle members will be assigned by your instructor and are intentionally a mix of majors and different summer internship/professional experiences. Diversity is a priority as getting to know others who are different from you is essential for career success. The circles will be the same people for each of the seven sessions. Please make every effort to attend all the class sessions as your circle mates will expect you to be there. Mastermind Peer Coaching Circles are a system of professional development designed by a company here in Minnesota called Authenticity Consulting. In your Mastermind groups you will support one another as you each get equal time to explore the topics of the session. You will coach and help one another to dig deeper, explore career topics, problem-solve, and develop action plans for career growth and reflection. Each session, one of you will be the group facilitator, making sure that the conversation and coaching is focused on one person at a time and that each person in the group gets equal time each Mastermind session. Here are the topics for each session: Mastermind Session Topic(s) Time Session 1 Come up with a name for your group and do introductions including Name, Major, Pronouns, Where your internship was this summer and a few details about your experience (virtual/in-person) Additional Get-to-know-you-questions What about your major contributed to you picking this particular major? Outside of career, what are one or two personal goals you have for yourself throughout life. Why are these important to you? What is something in your life you are most proud of, why? Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Are you more of an introvert or an extrovert? Each person gets 5 -6 minutes Session 2 TOPIC 1: StrengthsFinder/High5Test assessment: Share the realizations you had about your strengths. Did any of your strengths make sense or not make sense? Why? How did you use your strengths at your summer experience? Or if you didn’t, why didn’t you? How important do you think it is to find a career that aligns with your strengths? What are your values when it comes to what you want your career to be? Do you think these are different from your values in life in general? TOPIC 2: Career Fairs: What type of career fair do you plan to attend for this class, and have you signed up? What are your goals for the fair you will attend? Describe in detail what you think you need to do to prepare for this fair. How do you feel about attending a career fair? If you have any hesitancy, how can you get more comfortable about attending? Each person gets 12 minutes Session 3 TOPIC 1: Personal Brand: What do you want your personal brand to represent? Do you feel others see this as your brand? If there is a mismatch, how do you think you can remedy this? If there is alignment, how can you keep this going? Are there actions you can take to help in building your personal brand? TOPIC 2: Workplace Identity: Reflect with your group about your social identities that you thought about, or perhaps didn’t think about, at your summer internship/work experience. Describe for your group what you are realizing about power, privilege and identity, especially as it relates to where you want to work going forward. Did you experience any imposter syndrome during your summer internship? If you did, did you overcome it, or did it continue throughout the summer? If you didn’t, why do you think that was? Do you think imposter syndrome will be something you contend with in your first job after college? Why or why not? Each person gets 12 minutes Session 4 TOPIC 1: RESUMES: How do you feel about your current resume? What parts do you feel you need feedback on? Has your resume ever been rejected in an application process? Do you have thoughts on why that was? Could it be because an ATS system rejected it? How can you navigate this so that it doesn’t happen in the future? TOPIC 2: INTERVIEWING: Ask the group to ask you an interview question of your choice. For your response, tell a STAR story from your summer experience. POSSIBLE QUESTIONS: 1.) Tell me about a time you had to use your communication skills to lead to the success of a project. What tactics did you use and what was the result? 2.) What was the biggest project you had to solve at your internship? How did you come to a resolution? 3.) Tell me about the highest performing team you have been a part of. What was your role in making this team a success? 4.) Tell me about a time at work where you did not have a clear direction but took on a project. What was the result? TOPIC 3: MORE ABOUT INTERVIEWING: What are your strengths and areas of opportunity related to interviewing? Have you started a list of stories from work/life that you can tell in an interview? What types of stories do you think should be on this list? Each person gets 12 minutes Session 5 TOPIC 1: LINKEDIN: Share your LinkedIn profile with each other, get feedback and connect with each other. IF you don’t use LinkedIn, do you have another type of professional profile that you can share? (E.G. Google Scholar) How would you go about getting to 200 or 500+ connections on LinkedIn? What ideas do you have for using LinkedIn for networking? What ideas do you have for using LinkedIn as a tool in supporting the personal brand we discussed in session 3? Are there any profiles you have seen on LinkedIn that you consider good inspiration on how to best use the platform? What ideas do you have for joining groups or professional associations for networking on LinkedIn?i If you don’t use LinkedIn, what ideas do you have for using electronic tools to build your network and professional brand? TOPIC 2: ATS & RESUMES: What are you realizing about ATS and your resume after using Quinncia this past week? Talk in detail about how you can use Quinncia to polish your resume even more. Each person gets 12 minutes Session 6 TOPIC 1: DIGITAL STORY: What is your plan for your digital story? In what areas are you feeling stuck or need to finalize your ideas? What is the most creative element of your digital story? TOPIC 2: POSSIBLE LIVES MAP: Share your Possible Lives Map. How does this connect and disconnect from where you thought your life might go at the beginning of class? Describe what you want your career to look like. What are 3 specific next steps you intend to take in regards to your career? What space will you allow in your plan for new ideas to emerge, or for you to lean into newfound passions? Each person gets 12 minutes Session 7 TOPIC 1: DIGITAL STORY Present your digital stories to your group. Collectively have a conversation and give feedback on: Who will you share this with? What modifications could you make to make this an even stronger personal branding piece? What is your strategy for getting this added to your LinkedIn profile? TOPIC 2: APPRECIATIONS & KUDOS Give specific appreciation to your fellow Masterminders! Reflect on what this Mastermind process did for you. Each person gets 12 minutes
