About Kompost 1

Kompost 1 is a blend of dairy and poultry manures which have been composted by controled aeration and with the addition of biodynamic compost starter.

Unlike fresh manures, Kompost 1 is a stable product which will not burn plants due to high ammonia content or cause overly vegetative growth as a result of an imbalance of phosphorus and potassium to nitrogen, found in many manures. Because it is also partially decomposed, it is not expected to take any nitrogen or oxygen from the soil to accomplish this as many fresh materials will do.

As a natural fertilizer, Kompost 1 is rich in minerals. In addition to major plant nutrients, it is expected to carry many minor nutrients normally associated with organic manures. Because most of the nitrogen is present in organic form it will be released slowly over the course of the growing season as plants require it. A major portion of the phosphorus and potassium is expected to be immediately available. Kompost 1 also has a moderate liming effect.

Using KOMPOST 1

Kompost 1 serves excellently as a general fertilizer and soil conditioner. It should be applied in amounts consistent with that of other natural fertilizers. For gardens, rates of up to 150 pounds per 1000 sq. ft. and for fields 1-2 tons / acre can be used, depending on soil conditions. A soil test is recommended.

Kompost 1 may also be used as a plant starter and potting mix, blended 1 part to 6 parts peat. With this mix, additional soluble nutrients are not required.
