[1] Possibly related to de László’s agreement to offer a blank canvas to be auctioned by Seymour Hicks on 8 December 1932 in aid of the Victoria Hospital for Children, see DLA019-0245, letter from de László to Mrs Alfhild Guinness, 18 November 1932, and DLA019-0241, letter from de László to Arthur G. Ferard, 21 November 1932. The successful bidder was Henry Astell Law, 7th Baron Ellenborough (1889–1945), who commissioned de László to paint a portrait of his wife, Lady Ellenborough, née Helen Dorothy Lovatt (1900–2002) [5012]. See also related item DLA026-0256, letter from Seymour Hicks to de László, undated [possibly 1932].
