VOLUNTEERS AND STUDENT PLACEMENT POLICY
PURPOSE
To support students from universities, TAFE colleges, school work experience and community members to participate in our PROGRESSIVE philosophy of education at Green Umbrella OSHC.
We will maintain records with the relevant information regarding students and volunteers at Green Umbrella to safeguard children and visitors and follow legislative requirements.

POLICY STATEMENT
Green Umbrella supports the training of students to extend and develop their knowledge and skills. Green Umbrella views this support in providing positive experiences for students as one of our contribution to the development of staff in the out of school hours care field.
Green Umbrella supports the participation of volunteers as members of the wider community.
PRACTICE
The Approved Provider, Nominated Supervisor or Responsible Person will:
- Prior to students and volunteers commencing at Green Umbrella, their suitability will be assessed and they will be required to have completed the new working with children check at their local RTA and supply the AP number to the Manager prior to volunteering. (This check is free for volunteers and students).
- Ensure the days and hours of attendance of students and volunteers are recorded on the staff sign in/out sheets.
- Keep a record of all volunteers and students who spend time at Green Umbrella. The record will include: full name, address, date of birth, date and hours of each volunteer or student who participates in the program.
- Be aware of protocols and guidance supplied by universities, TAFEs or RTOs in relation to participating students, and make this information available to other staff members as required at Green Umbrella.
- Students and volunteers will report to the Nominated Supervisor or the responsible person.
- Students and volunteers are not counted in the staffing ratios within Green Umbrella. However on bush walks and excursions, they may be counted in the adult : child ratios.
- Full copies of all policies will be made available to students.
