DYNAMIC STROKES & MANEUVERS

led by Paul ‘lightning blades’ Kuthe

Who

Beginners & those who want to improve their paddling techniques

What

Often, to move your paddling up a level, you need to revisit some fundamentals of boat control that get ignored or passed up during your initial progression.  Perhaps you are just getting started and don’t want to pick up bad habits?  We will break down key concepts and clear up some paddling myths while having fun and learning new things in a safe, easy environment.  The key cause and effect relationships involved in boat control are discovered and students learn to perform paddle strokes and maneuvers safely and efficiently that convert well to a dynamic whitewater environment. The clinic covers efficient forward and reverse paddling, a wide variety of techniques for controlling spin momentum, and will give you MANY other new skills and drills to work on all year!

RIVER RUNNING SKILLS STYLE OVER SURVIVAL

led by Paul ‘to infinity & beyond’ Kuthe

Who

Strong beginners & intermediates, both with a strong roll.

What

Developing your river running skills and techniques allows for more confidence and better control on the water.  Moving beyond the basics and working HARD moves on EASY rapids will help you nail that move when you REALLY need it.  We will practice moving as a group on the water and will begin to improve your ability to operate as a member of a paddling “team”.  We will work on establishing lateral momentum, controlling your descent, and STYLING the run rather than just surviving it.  If possible, we will utilize slalom gates and many other river features to make moves you never though possible.  Master the basics of boofing, S-turns, Jet ferries, and soo much more on class II-III water.

COMBAT ROLLING

led by Paul ‘duck & cover’ Kuthe

Who

Participants should have comfort and experience on class II+ rivers.  A

reliable roll in cold water with full gear is required.

What

The combat roll is an elusive but crucial skill that will open many doors and improve your confidence immensely.  Explore and practice the physical and mental techniques needed to pull rolls off EVERY time you need them.  We will discover how variation, bi-lateral repetition, and contextual interference can better ingrain the fundamental movements needed for rolling in dynamic water.  We will begin rolling in calm pools then move into more and more challenging rolling situations.  We are all between swims, but hopefully this clinic will make those swims less frequent and far less likely.
