Application for SummerSTEM for K-12 Educators: July 17-21
Thank you for your interest in SummerSTEM, a career immersion experience for educators of ALL disciplines and roles to support WCPSS goal to ensure students are COLLEGE and CAREER READY.
This public-private partnership between Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) and Wake Education Partnership (WakeEd) provides WCPSS educators with immersions in RTP businesses and organizations in the RTP area and Wake Technical Community College. We are excited about the experience that the educators and schools who participate will have.
SummerSTEM schools and educator teams receive the following benefits for their participation:
- Immersion in one of the following potential industry areas*:
- Agriculture and Natural Resources
- Information Technology
- Arts, Design Thinking, and Government Policy
- Construction, Architecture, and Engineering
- $650 stipend** for completing all required components of the summer professional development experience.
- Costs of substitutes for 3 days of professional development during the 2023-2024 school year for each educator
- Compensation in the amount of $350 for the successful submission of a project-based learning unit.
Interested two-member teacher teams submit a Team Application that has Two Parts:
- Online application link: SummerSTEM Teacher Application This includes a cover page, Team Member 1 Application, Team Member 2 Application, Combined Team Members Application, endorsement and commitment statement. Teacher teams are to complete and submit this application first. We will then seek the principal endorsement found in Step #2.
- Online principal link: SummerSTEM Principal Endorsement. This demonstrates the principal’s commitment to support the SummerSTEM team and to meet obligations for collaboration among the team members during the 2022-2023 school year.
The teacher application and principal endorsement are due by Tuesday, May 30, 2023.
Selecting Your Team: The Centerpiece to Success in SummerSTEM
The educators who form your two-member SummerSTEM team should have the following characteristics:
- Regular use of various resources to deliver curriculum and instruction, including web-based resources, professional journals and related material;
- Desire to integrate actual scenarios and applications to their curriculum;
- Confidence with data collection and analysis to demonstrate student achievement;
- Behaviors and practices that reflect a desire for instructional innovation and creativity;
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within and across disciplines;
- Interest in continual professional growth and leadership;
- Opportunity to collaborate frequently during the 2023-24 school year.

**Per WCPSS policy, July 17-21 has to be outside of your contractual obligation to be eligible for the stipend.
